I believe he is a 2024. He was a freshman last year and was the starting shortstop when Gavin Guidry would pitch.
This is the second commit this week.

Thanks Project.
Who was the other commit this week?
Are we going to get the recruiting thread back?

Is this typical to get a commit from a HS sophomore?

Bubba Coleman - 2026 INF was the other one. First one in that class.
The thread will come back after the furor is signing day subsides.

That seems to be the normal timeframe nowadays for when most guys commit. Almost no one from the 2022 class is still uncommitted, the 2023 is mostly done too.
There is always some reshuffling too. Usually before either of the signing days or leading up to enrollment.

It’s weird to me too. But we aren’t even close to the first one taking 2026 guys. If I had to guess, we won’t be loading up that class any time soon.

Appreciate the news. Looking forward to baseball. Wasn't aware that players committed that early.

That's a serious travel ball name.

Its an interesting subject. College coaches are forced to make offers very early to the top prospects. Unlike football, the commitments tend to stick. Some players or teams change course but a large number of them stick to it. Softball actually implemented some rules to counter balance the early signings. I don't know if baseball will ever go that route.
With most of the players committed so early, I was worried that Johnson would struggle with the 2022 class, boy was I wrong. Johnson added major pieces to the commits that were already on board, making it an outstanding class. I have a good feeling about a number of the top prospects making it to campus as well.
I think we will also get some future, first round talent, arms on campus as well, something this current team is lacking.

I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but I think there was an odd number of players in the class and the difference in old staff v new staff was only 1.

I believe a lot of the 2022 players the new staff brought in were pitchers as well. Romero, Crawford and Paul are the position players I think they brought in. Johnson looked at our roster and knew we needed to bring in big arms and then he made it happen.

Is he 13 years old? How old do you have to be to be recruited?

What happened to the Baseball and softball recruiting thread

Any chance that Gavin Guidry ends up as a pitcher at LSU? He apparently bumped 94 at a Barbe intrasquad last week.

Jay Johnson said Gavin Guidry is a legit 2 way player. He said he would pitch and play infield for LSU.
The Coleman kid would be an 8th grader in the class of 2026.
From what I’ve been told most classes are done by the kids sophomore year in height school. So the coaches have to project what they’ll be in 2-3 years if not more.

Son plays with him, he told me he was going to LSU like a month ago…maybe locker room talk or just my dude with a good guess.
