We know what we're getting with Bolden and the guys in here all telling you that Bolden is awful yet people like you say "Coaches are never wrong" might get a very rude awakening if Mett gets hurt, and we're stuck with Jordan Jefferson part II (even WORSE than JJ, actually) with Bolden getting in there.

Why would he jump Randall and Rivers?

My thing about this situation is this. Miles got burned with a lack of QB Depth and he wont let that happen again. Even if this guy is behind Rivers and Randall, he gives depth to the most important position. He wont count against any spots for the 13 or 14 class, he just slides right in and gets us to 85. I just think Miles learned you can never be too careful when talking about QB depth.

Hate to add to the negativity, but...

At best, his is a stop-gap backup to Mett, which means Rivers and Randall are really bad at this point given the horrendous numbers that Bolden had during his Penn St. career.

At worst, Miles is not content having a pocket passer at QB and he wants Bolden as an option-running change of pace. I hate this strategy and it could prove to be pretty disastrous.

Sure, Miles and the coaches know more about football than I and get paid millions, etc. But they are not infallible (Ole Miss '09, UT '10, Jefferson '0Forever) and given the recent QB travesty, I am not optimistic about Miles' intentions.

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure it really clarifies it though. I think it's very possible the writer wrote one thing and quoted Bloom talking about something different (the signing limit). It seems in cases like this where the conference deviates from the NCAA standard it is clearly spelled out in the SEC Bylaws, like with the more strict signing limit and the handling of hardships, but nothing mentions a different definition of "initial counter".

I'm glad Bolden is coming to LSU. It gives LSU depth as he is one who has seen the live bullets and has been in the foxholes during live action. My only concern is that he couldn't beat out a weak-armed walk-on QB consistently. It is good for LSU to have somebody with some game experience and is a smart move by the staff. Welcome to Tigerland Robert.

ok, actually found the sec manual, here are the rules...

quote:

13.9.1 Letter of Intent - Limitation. Each SEC member institution is limited to signing 25 football prospective studentathletes to a National Letter of Intent, Conference financial aid agreement and/or institutional offer of athletics financial aid
from December 1 through May 31st of each year. [Adopted 5/29/09; effective immediately; revised 6/3/11; effective August 1, 2011]

13.9.1.1 Signing Limit Exception. A prospective student-athlete who signs a National Letter of Intent, Conference
financial aid agreement and/or institutional offer of athletics financial aid and is included in the certifying
institution’s initial counter limits for the current academic year is not subject to the institution’s annual signing limit.
[Adopted 6/3/11; effective August 1, 2011]

basically first part says you can only take 25 LOI's per year, second states that you can retro an LOI for an early enrollee to the current year provided you were under 25 LOI's. So, if I"ve got this right we could take 27 next feb as long as at least are 2 early enrolls.

I think I read somewhere that the NCAA is adopting this next year as well.

Hey GW, you are way wrong. This may cost us one of our 2013 QB studs...

Ok Mark the Spark, :) look below.
quote:

#LSU quarterback commit Hayden Rettig said even if #PSU QB Rob Bolden transfers there it doesn't influence his commitment at all.
:touche: Rettig and Jennings will be Freshman by the time Mett and Bolden are Seniors anyway. One or both of Rettig and Jennings will RS regardless.

he may be better than them at this point and we needed an insurance policy should Mett go down this season or turn pro after this season.

Yeah, but Bolden and his 59 carries for 27 yards in two years means he's immediately better than anyone we have on our roster because he's got experience.

Yes, they are making 25 the signee limit instead of 28, the initial counter limit of 25 has been the same for a while. The NCAA manual is always clear, so if nothing else we'll have a better understanding of the SEC rule once it's added to the NCAA manual.

The NCAA is also adopting the SEC proposal to make any Summer enrollee automatically one of the initial counters for that Fall. That means no more Porter situations.

You doin the homework.

I still don't get why we would take him as a placeholder on the team. I just don't see the need. My big concern is still that one of the 13 QBs gets a little worried about the comp, especially Anthony...

I think the only real difference is back counting if fewer than 25 enroll but you signed 25.

Why in the frick with all the whackage that takes place for misleading shite is CHicken n Co allowing the thread to be titled in a complete LIE?

He HAS NOT transfered...change the title, it's annoying as hell the rules are being bent for this absolute lie...

He ain't coming! Do you really think he would hold out on committing if we had offered on his "visit"?

Do we want to be reminded of Jordan Jefferson? I think, not! But if they were referring to his dual threat, meaning his ability to pass or run, then maybe we're okay. Although, JJ had his moments but overall- was a flop.
