My guess is the coaching staff is doing its evaluations of the current roster and they don't think they have a good push-the-pile back or a short yardage guy.
I think that's a very fair assessment based on the current roster, and I'm onboard for bringing him on in that role. Just wouldn't expect a ton more than that.

He was overrated out of high school and lost offers and ranking from it. This was prior to injury. Hope he does well, just not sure about this one.

Why’s he leaving Penn State? Was he getting playing time? I really don’t know.
See so what you do in this instance is shut your yap and stick that dick that was in it back in.

NOSA, call me crazy, but i specifically remember his recruitment and his Frosh year at PSU. I watched his film and Emery's out of high school and I wanted him over Emery before any of them committed to anyone. But maybe I'll be proved wrong, but that's just me. Hope he impresses here...

I’d tell Citizen now committ now or drop your wish list to 7!
Huh
Citizen has more upside than any back on LSU’s roster
6 scholarship RBs is over kill. Citizen would be 7. Someone has to be leaving

Upside, I'd say Emery. But we've only seen glimpses of it.

247 RB rankings that year
Emery 2
Cain 6
TDP 8
Emery 2
Cain 6
TDP 8

Emery
Kiner
Goodwin
Bradford
That’s four “scholarship” running backs
Williams
Demas
That’s two walkons who have been put on scholarship. I wouldn’t classify them as “scholarship” running backs.
So, you add Cain. That makes 5.
Of the four returnees, 2 did not play last year and 2 barely played. They need all the help they can get.

You go out and the those Louisiana guys from the portal, and make those future Louisiana recruits feel like they're wanted here. This might go a long way to locking down the state in future recruiting cycles.
That's a good point.

Williams is basically a walk-on.
If you count him, count Demas.
And I’m sure you are correct, they expect to lose someone, either soon or after spring.
But it’s more than just numbers. There’s not a proven starter in the bunch.

We getting excited over backup running backs off a team that went 7-6. Is this how we compete with Alabama and Georgia?

You don't think more running backs are going to jump into the portal?
Shite, bama might have one. I don't absolutely hate cain. He runs hard as hell and can pass protect.
I just think a better back will come along. I'm sure they wanted to sure the room up though.

I cant see any of the guys we currently have on the roster scaring off Citizen if he was thinking about coming here
Emery: injury issues and still waiting to see something
Kiner: fairly solid
Bradford: nothing yet
Godwin: injury problems but showed flashes of talent
Williams: good for a walk on
Cain: last two years with injury problems and not the same
7 would be crowded but it seems many of these guys are big question marks.

I’ve never heard of Demas
You do realize Williams has been on scholarship the last two seasons, right?
He has carries in legit SEC contests
Stud, no
Legit scholarship RB, yap

Split back formation, Citizen and Cain, henceforth known as the “Rosebud” package.

Yeah, don’t see what the coaches are seeing here. He’s a former burner who became a plodder.

Nick Demas is a former walk-on running back that is now on scholarship.
I know exactly who Williams is. I just don’t think a junior who is a former walk-on will have any affect on roster decisions.
I think they probably plan to lose one of the four other running backs, and Cain replaces him. Then potentially add one more.

Emery still has some issues to iron out, but he has the potential to be the bell cow if he can put it together. I expect there will be 1-2 transfers by the fall or after spring ball. Cain gives you a solid piece with college experience who very likely knows this is his shot. I expect him to be at worst a compliment to whoever the starter will be. The staff still wants a high school RB for the future as well. Taking Cain will be a good thing for the 2022 team.
