There seems to be several players leaving after next year in basketball. I absolutely am amazed at the talent level that will wear the Purple and Gold for basketball next year.

However, I haven't heard much about the next recruiting cycle. Does anyone know the early signing dates, players that Coach Wade is recruiting? I just remember coach making some very early noise after he was hired and hoping to continue that momentum into the next recruiting cycle!

2019 recruiting is really just getting underway, you will see more names pop up after the AAU circuit this spring/summer.

Expect it to be a heavy class of 4-year guys. Dont expect many Top 100 guys, but probably a handful of 100-200ish ranked type of guys.

Right now Wade is probably most focused on closing out the 2018 class with transfers/JUCO maybe even another freshman or 2, he has 3 scholarships still to give.

As huge as this next class is that is coming in, we need a "foundational" class in 2019 as you're suggesting will happen.

Fill the roster with solid 4 year guys and then get 1 or 2 talents a year that won't spend a lot of time in college.

That's the recipe for sustained success.

Yep, ideally for us only Reid goes pro after this season from our group coming in so we can combine some program guys with Williams, Smart and Days for a season or 2. Days feels like a 4-year guy, Williams and Smart are pure wildcards to me.

Williams has the athleticism to go pro after 1. We'll see how he rounds the rest of his game up.

I have no clue if he can shoot consistently because all he seems to do is dunk

It's hard to predict landing one and done guys in any class, but obviously if LSU is on the map next year that's very likely. Hell it may already be likely with the quality of recruiter that Wade is.

I think the class will see 2-3 top 100 guys. I think this current years class doesn't have the one and dones that a guy like Moscona thinks they will have. I think you could expect Smart, Days, and Williams to all play more than only one season in Baton Rouge.

He does, but he's also very short (6'6-6'7) for a true PF. I think if he really wants to go pro he needs to develop an outside game some, and learn how to handle the ball a little better. He occasionally will take a 3 but he'd MUCH rather go to the rim. Problem is there's plenty of athletic guys like him in the NBA who are a few inches taller and will make like life living close to the rim very hard.

What makes Reid such a complete prospect is he has the size AND the handles + range to make you defend him everywhere. If you combined Reid's skillset with Williams' effort/motor level, you'd have a #1 overall type player.

Yeah I agree.

I don't know if he doesn't have a good shot or not though, because he never shoots

Yep. I can't see Williams entering the draft until he proves that he can hit outside shots. Even then...6'7" PF's usually don't get drafted very high.

I can actually see him getting drafted pretty high if he proves to NBA scouts that he can play SF. He has the size for that position in the NBA.

With as early as football and baseball recruiting gets started on guys, this is nice to see.

I understand that basketball recruiting is rife with other issues, but this aspect of it is better than the other two sports.

Right now only Bigby-Williams and Edwards are for sure gone after next season. It's likely Reid will be gone as well.

The others are very much up in the air. For Waters, his size will always be a "negative". It's just a matter of when he chooses to leave. Obviously he can and will get better, but as an NBA prospect he kind of is what he is at this point.

Smart may have the talent, but I don't think he leaves after next year simply because Waters will be the team's primary ball handler and 6'4 "off guards" who aren't great 3 point shooters aren't in huge demand. He'll likely (or should) stay long enough to play a full season as the team's primary PG. Maybe that is 2 years, maybe it's 3.

Emmitt Williams will be the wildcard. He's probably athletic enough right now to be drafted. The question remains is he big enough at 6'6-6'7, without great offensive skill, to be a first rounder? Right now he is a dunk, rebound, and high energy guy. If he's 6'10 he's almost a sure-fire one and done. But at his height he may benefit from two years in college. Particularly in light of the fact that with Reid and KBW gone, he becomes the focal point of LSU's frontcourt and can develop a better offensive skill-set.

Since he has 3 scholarships, I would be surprised if he doesn't bring in at least one transfer that will sit next year.

Kind of agree with everyone else, expect Reid to be a one and done, Williams and (to a lesser extent) Smart may have a great year and make the jump (but would be a long shot on both). Best case scenario is Days, Smart, Williams and Waters are back with 2019-2020. Would be a scary foundation.

I hope Emmitt Williams is a good FT shooter because the way he goes to the rim he'll be at the line a lot.

Ok....so will Wade got hired very late in the recruiting process and was able to get a guy like waters to come in and sign on basically a month or twos worth of talk....He had Smart, Reid, Days, and finally Emmit Williams after his off court crap end up all signing again based on very little time talking with Wade and the staff. Plus holding on to the original recruits and bringing in various transfers and whatnot...

Guy raked in 4 top 35 overall players in one and a quarters normal class recruiting time...and signed another top 80-100 4 star cat in days as well....

Have absolutely zero doubt in his ability to recruit and get elite talent. I'd expect even though the lack of headline news is out there regarding blue chip recruits, the fact is behind the scenes it is working overdrive and I fully expect a class with at least a couple highly ranked 4 and 5 star talents. Bank it

We had connections to every guy we signed other than Days. Might not have the same connections for top 50 guys next year. With that being said, landing some program guys next class is more important than 5 stars next year

That’s true. We may not be able to expect this kind of class again, but a stellar season could put us on the radar for big time players.

The 2015 class was very similar. The difference is that season was an abortion and we couldn’t parlay that into future recruiting success.

Also, Days is from Gainesville & didn't get an offer from Florida. Not saying we wouldn't have gotten him if UF did offer, but it certainly increased our chances.

Obviously I'd like Wade to bring in the elite recruits every year, but I'll be happy with 4-year guys that fit our system this year.

Other than Reid, who has a girlfriend at LSU, the other so called connections are just normal recruiting relationships.
