What's the difference between the 247 and 247 composite ranking for us unenlightened.

247 is only 247's rankings
Composite uses a formula to take the rankings from Rivals, ESPN and 247 (not sure about On3, but I'd assume their rankings are in there as well) to come up with kind of an average (or composite) from the rankings of all the major services.

For future reference when talking recruiting do like everyone else does. just quote whichever service has your team/player ranked the highest.

I’ve seen Rivals do the same thing. Saw a 3 star commit to Bama and a day or 2 later, he was a 4 star.

It’s probably more accurate to say they are four stars because they committed early

That's a sound strategy. Even the writers for Rivals, who are probably suboptimally employed journalalists who like sports, recognize that Nick and Company probably know a lot about assessing talent.
