Emery Jr. played in one of the toughest (if not THE toughest) districts in LA. He looked the part against some of the best this state has to offer. He earned it in my opinion, but he didn’t live up to expectations (minus a few flashes here and there).
I think everyopne this board will agree, Emory didn't live up to his #1 RB in the country status.

Would you say the 44th ranked player In the state Tyjae Spears has done better for himself?

Put high school John Emery on St Martins and his tape would look eerily similar, except JE was slightly bigger. Same 4.37 speed.
John Emery was also good in HS and he played harder competition than Nate Sheppard.
D1 athletes stand out in HS.
one of the greatest HS RB performances I ever saw was Craig Steltz coming in against Jesuit in the second half and ripping of 170 yards in 7 carrie’s 3 Tds and a 2 point conversion.
and he played safety.

Why are you so stuck on this shite? However it shakes out it doesn’t matter.

It's clear he has a personal connection to the kid, so he's a bit emotional about it.
Posted on 10/2/24 at 3:39 pm to Galactic Inquisitor
Lol! No connection. Just trying to figure things out logically. Sheppards film is way more impressive. That’s my only point.

You should go start your own recruiting service then, sounds like you’d be able to see what no other scouting reports see

Agree apparently guy is a scout

I agree, Sheppard is gonna be an NFL product. Exactly at what position is to be determined.
But that dude has it!!

Obviously if I was a scout Sheppard would have been offered by now.

I really have no idea if kid deserves offer or not. But you seem so pissed that he don’t, makes me wonder why?

I find it funny people think I’m pissed. I’m not at all. If anything I’m happy LSU is in such a position to pick and choose which 4 or 5 star they want. Not many schools are in that position.
If you’ve read from the beginning, I’m simply making an argument that Sheppard deserves an offer based off his body of work when being compared to Berry. My arguments are simply logical.
1. I played in the district Berry plays in. D1 athletes hardly ever come out of that district and it’s for a good reason. If they do come out of that district it would be from either West St. John or Riverside. Historically those are the only schools in that district that produce athletes (and not many. Tyson Jackson comes to mind). The transition from the district Berry is in to SEC football is almost like going from playground ball to the SEC.
2. Sheppard’s film holds more weight than Berry’s because he plays against better athletes on a week to week basis. Berry plays in the least competitive 1A district in the state, and Sheppard plays 5A ball.
This is simply my argument, but everyone wants to bring up 7v7 and run times. Those are great! It’s shows Berry is more athletic than Sheppard, and can run routes and execute against other Elite secondary defenders without pads on. But I’d rather see how a RB plays (against decent athletes, at least) when the helmet and pads are strapped on. There is more to running back than just athletic ability, and running routes.

If you put Reggie Bush in 1A ball, it doesnt mean he suddenly is much worse. Sure its worse competition overall, but again you're evaluating the player, not the people they are playing against.
There are plenty of guys who put up big stats in 5A who dont even get D1 offers. Likewise there are players in 1A who get offers from everyone. Again, evaluate the player, not the competition.
Also, there are certainly plenty of people in the past who have come from small school football to the SEC and been successful. It's a huge jump up for ANYONE in high school to play in the SEC, doesnt matter if it's Division I 6A Texas high school football or Montana 1A football. Thats not to say there's more D1 athletes in 1 vs the other, but it doesnt mean the trajectory of the player you're evaluating coming out is better/worse in any way. Even in Division I 6A Texas high school football, you might go a whole season playing maybe a half dozen kids who go to SEC schools over the course of 12-15 games. Thats still plenty of kids you're playing against who have no hope at this level.
