Aeron Burrell
From LSU Sports Roster Bio
"HIGH SCHOOL
The top prep kicker in Louisiana and the nation’s No. 1 overall placekicker prospect by 247Sports … Ranked No. 2 nationally by On3 … Composite 3-star prospect … First-Team 5A All-State in 2022 … Three-time First-Team All-District selection … As a junior, had 51 touchbacks and converted 12-of-14 field goals … As a senior in 2023, kicked a 55-yard field goal setting the Bossier Parish record … The 55-yard field goal broke his previous record of 53 set during his junior season … Can also punt.
From On3
"The LSU football staff has signed one of the best kickers in the 2024 recruiting class as Parkway High’s Aeron Burrell inked with the Tigers on Wednesday.
Burrell, who is ranked by On3 as the No. 2 kicker in the country, is headed to Baton Rouge after a stellar high school career in North Louisiana.

The Shreveport native is also ranked by Kohl’s Kicking Academy as the No. 2 kicker in the 2024 class.
As a junior, Burrell recorded touchbacks on 51 of his 51 kickoffs. He was 8-for-10 on field goal attempts, which included a pair of 50+ yard conversions. He also hit 37 point after attempts on the year."
I have seen comments from others that in HS he routinely practiced from 60+. Maybe we have the wrong guy placekicking. I would certainly entertain Burrell being the guy from 45+ because Ramos is limited out from there.

Kohl’s ranks kickoff specialists very high since so few kids each year can kick it 80 yards off of a tee. Dibert was similarly ranked.
Burrell has been very good handling kickoffs as a true freshman. That’s a unique talent. Hopefully with some coaching he can improve has field goal accuracy. He was very raw out of high school and not your typical ‘camp’ kid with years of accurate results.

I tihnk the biggest point around Burrell is why is he not the field goal kicker right now on kicks over 45 yards? Its pretty apparent Ramos doesnt quite have the leg power to kick long distance. He came up short on a 48 yarder against A&M. If Ramos cant even get the distance then someone else needs to kick those that at least has a chance.

LSU has done very good over the years with kickers. Burrell was one of the top kicker in country out of HS
Burrell might end up being great, but the people at On3 and 247 have admitted that they have absolutely no actual resources put into ranking kickers and the ranking of them basically mean nothing.
For instance, Payton Todd was the #1 punter in HS football and he’s so bad that we had to tamper to get Tech’s punter to transfer over the summer.

So LSU has 1 really bad game on STs and all of a sudden people are going all KAREN.Slade Nagle is pretty much the STs coach and with 1 exception they have done well.THE SKY IS FALLINGGGGGG.NOTTTT!!!!
Special teams has been bad for 3 years… we’ve had everything from not being able to block for FG’s, not being able to catch punts, not being able to punt and not having a kicker you can even trot out there for a 50 yard FG. I’m not sure why you think this is a sudden issue people are overreacting to.
If the only problem was us going 1/4 one game in FG’s I’d agree, but it’s been one thing after another for 3 years.

It's a snapping and holder problem. Not a kicker problem. Sadly I think we're kind of just stuck with it. Brian Kelly historically has had poor special teams play because he doesn't devote much practice to it, and he clearly hasn't changed anything there at LSU.

Thanks, I posted some info on this last week hoping you would contribute your info on Burrell. I was curious if he is the FG kicker of the future or not.

He didn’t have the camp record to imply he’s an SEC caliber kicker, but I also don’t think he had the years of form training like most of those kids. Meaning, if he gets or is getting that form training now he may be able to adjust and straighten up his ball flight.
The coaches will know what they have in him after the spring charting sessions. Accuracy numbers do not lie. Corbello is around as well, so one of those guys will win the backup role…and hopefully some long ball reps next fall.

Assuming then they don't bring in another kicker and focus on improving long snapper and holder? Or do you think they are looking to add another kicker as well? Interesting to see, especially with Ramos going into his last year.

What does a Special team
coach do to make a guy not muff a punt?

I think we still have 3 kickers on scholarship with Dibert. That’s one more than probably any D1 school…so I doubt we bring in another unless Dibert transfers out.

He finds and develops someone who can catch a punt? It’s a skill just like everything else in literally every sport.

You think Malik Nabors is incapable of catching a punt?
Or just fricked ip a couple times?
really need a guy in staff with the unique inside of getting under a ball and not just letting it go through your arms.

I saw him play. has a strong leg.

That definitely makes sense if you already have three on scholarship. Tough spot to have three on scholarship and not be sure you have the guy to take over for Ramos or help extend your available range on FG.
