What if OBU's post is correct and Benton didn't want to go to LSU?

posters on the Rivals board said their mod mentioned that an Auburn coach informed him that Benton has been a silent commit since he visited.

You're going to have to elaborate on this comment for it to make sense to me.

I haven't seen anything in Randle's 'highlight' video to say that he is a can't miss prospect - I'm not an expert, but I've been right more times than not when I look at a prospect on tape (he looks a little slow to me). I hope he turns out to be as good as the recruiting guys have him ranked because he is the only receiver LSU signed this year and he will be looked upon to contribute a lot either this year or next.

Les Miles did what he had to do to get the #1 WR in the nation. In doing so, he likely had to tell an athlete with an academic problem and a potentially shorter career at LSU to take hike.

In my estimation, that pretty much sums it up. Caveat: no comment on #1 WR in the nation.

I can't understand the idea of so many that we only signed 1 receiver. I see Randal, Claiborne, Calhoun is projected as receiver or db or rb. That doesn't even take in to account the receivers we already have and who are good receivers. I probably missed someone from today also.

Miles was asked if Benton had a scholarship offer as of this morning, and Miles hesitated, then said no.

I think he made a business decision - a calculated risk. If you put everything in a hat (Benton's academic problems along with his rumored silent UA commit and RR's statement regarding finding elsewhere to play if Benton was headed to LSU) and shake it out, you've got a good decision made by a head coach.

Don't feel bad for Benton - he's still gonna be a great WR for a school that may have had problems the past few years, but will come around. AU always does. Benton still a tiger - not the one he may have wanted to be, but nevertheless.

I don't disagree with you. I'm more concerned with our LBs, and it looks like we did OK.

you cant use the excuse that Randle was better. Benton was a 5 star WR i believe. And better at Bastrop when they played WR.

now if grades were a problem, then fine. If Benton made a secret visit to Auburn, fine.

If Miles pulled his scholarship because Randle wouldnt come to LSU: classless.

Pure and simple Miles did the right thing and made the decision that he had to make for HIS program.

hold a kids commitment for 2 years and throw away his offer on signing day is the best thing for the program?

I mean on the surface, that is what it looks like happened
