ESPN article: How the top transfers will impact women's college basketball
quote:
LSU doubled down on its national championship by winning the offseason too: The Tigers bring the top two transfers -- Hailey Van Lith and Aneesah Morrow -- to Baton Rouge. Coaches around the country have embraced the transfer portal as their primary recruiting tool, but no one else has done so with as much success and as quickly as Kim Mulkey. She won last season's title with nine new players, three of whom were transfers who instantly became starters. The term "superteam" gets thrown around a little too easily these days, but with Van Lith and Morrow joining Angel Reese, the Tigers will have three All-American-type players on the floor together this season.
quote:
1. Hailey Van Lith, 5-foot-7, G, graduate student
Louisville to LSU
No transfer's performance will be more analyzed and scrutinized than Van Lith's. But no transfer has as much potential to make as big an impact as Van Lith. LSU needs a replacement for Alexis Morris, a transfer who ended up being indispensable for the Tigers. Van Lith carries herself much the same way and can provide the edge, grit and big-moment excellence Morris did.
With Reese, Morrow and Flau'jae Johnson around her, Van Lith shouldn't have to be the volume shooter she became at Louisville. Despite lifting her scoring average to 19.7 PPG last season, she shot just 41.1% from the field and had 50 more field goal attempts than the next-highest total in the ACC last year. Expect her career-best 3.2 assists per game to rise. Mulkey will also like Van Lith's durability. She missed just one game in three years with the Cardinals and played nearly 37 MPG last season.
quote:
2. Aneesah Morrow, 6-foot-1, F, junior
DePaul to LSU
It's hard to imagine LSU's opponents getting many rebounds with Morrow joining Reese in the frontcourt. Morrow ranked sixth in the country last season (12.2 RPG), and Reese (15.4 RPG) was second. That's after Morrow topped the nation with 13.8 boards as a freshman. Morrow's video game numbers continue: She averaged 23.8 PPG last season. Morrow has fallen short of a double-double only 13 times in 66 career games.
She did spend more time away from the basket as a sophomore, and her shooting dipped to 42.5%. With Reese and sophomore Sa'Myah Smith patrolling the lane for the Tigers, Morrow might be asked to step to the perimeter more this season, too.

Morrow and Williams are the two new Tigers I’m most excited about watching. I think Morrow and Reese will play well off each other if Morrow jumper continues to grow. They don’t have the height but they are both dawgs.
They will bully most everyone we will face, save usce. And those games are when Williams and Van Lith shooting will need to lead.

Confident in this or is it just a feeling?

Looks like she attends a Catholic School, and if the mother is academically driven…..hmmmhhh
9/10 times the European powers are generally headed to a school higher in academics. If that’s the case nothing LSU can do to counter that if that’s the ultimate goal.

Long Island Lutheran is a christian school not Catholic

After just taking a 6’5 post in Aaliyah Del Rosario. I always felt like it would be an uphill battle to get Koval in the following class.
Posted on 9/29/23 at 7:50 am to Septiger
Koval isn’t making or breaking this class. We just signed Rosario. Now strong is a different story with Reese leaning towards leaving as strong plays the 4 spot. That is a pretty pivotal one. Elite posts are far more difficult to find than quality guards

In case any of you are not sure what we're getting with Van Lith, this popped up on my timeline on youtube. Especially watch what she does to Texas.
Hailey Van Lith is the Truth!
Watch this one. I know there a ton of HVL videos, but this is a new video worth watching. She rarely ever misses. She is really impressive.

Yeah Matthew Brune over at On3 who has great intel he says it’s ND. I really thought recruiting would take off after the national championship. We put all of our chips at the table for the top prospects and it’s potentially about to backfire. Thank God for the Portal.

I strongly disagree. We just landed the #1 recruiting class and #1 portal class after winning the Natty. Kim is about to land another top class for '24.

CKM has said Hailey "makes the term 'gym rat' seem obsolete, she's in the gym late at nite & again early in the morning. I am going to incorporate some of her work out routines into ours". And FWIW, Hailey's said she "loves to cook, loves to bake & really enjoys school, that's the competitor in myself".

That’s a bit dramatic. We landed everyone we wanted out of the portal and we are just going to miss on one of the top 5 in the class so far. I’ll be worried if we go 0fer on that top group, but I’m sure our portal haul will be elite again if that happens.

That could be true. However that would be making two assumptions. 1. Players of Angel, Hailey & Aneesah’s caliber will be in the portal again. 2. They’re going to automatically come to LSU because we missed on HS players. We can’t just assume that’s going to happen every offseason. That’s why this class is so important. My point was we went all in on these 4 players with no real options if it fell through. But hey maybe we get all three and make a statement!

Nothing new from practice, but I did find an LSU fan with a zoom lens who filmed about an hour’s worth of video from the Monday 3-hr open practice from the opposite side of the court and uploaded them into about 8 different clips, so far:
Continuous Tip drill sprints
Dribble drills & impressive ball handling drills, PnR drills, Feeding the post drills
Offensive drills, HVL hitting from the logo
Shooting drills
Defensive drills
Warmups, layups, passing
More defensive drills
Dribbling drills with limited vision goggles

How on earth would you know this? You’re never guaranteed to get who you want and coach knows this. You don’t get to where she is by being unprepared and unorganized.

why is there a guy runing the tip drill?
