Pretty sure we were going after him pretty hard when he was a recruit.

Why does LSU need another QB?

Maybe, but lots of other positions of need.

Also, how many years does he have left to play?

Does he have the skill set CBK is looking for?

The idea isnt to try and give ourselves only 2 QBs a year. If Brennan does indeed leave, we'll have 3 for 2022 if Max and Nuss both stay with Howard coming in. However, things can change at a moments notice, so adding a 4th, which could quickly become 3, isn't a bad idea.

LSU did go after Miller. Don't recall if ND was after him.

This is the problem with the portal where transfers don’t have to sit out for a year IMO. Because, if LSU were to take him, you might think it would be good for depth, but I don’t think that’s the case.
It would send a message to the current QB’s on the roster that might not be intended. They might think that the coaching staff doesn’t have confidence in them.
At least one might immediately transfer and then the depth would be the same it was before he transferred in. But, if the staff thinks he is better, then it may well be worth it.

You can never have too much competition in the QB room. If a QB is scared of competition, then he's not worth having.

I hope in the fall we have at least 3 scholarship QBs.

That’s my point. Him transferring to LSU doesn’t guarantee depth. More times than not, when you see something like this, in turn one of the other QB’s on the roster transfers. It ends up a zero sum gain.

See TJ Finey and Justin McMillan. Only one QB can play at a time and most of them don’t want to wait their turn.

All you can hope is he’s better than the one that transfers.

This is a binary way to look at it.

Adding QBs to the roster increases the competition level and chances that the ones that stay are the best ones.

Let's say the goal is to keep 3 guys, would you rather start with 3 and just hope they all stay, or would you rather start with 5 and let them compete and try to make sure the best 3 stay?

Here's what im seeing, by taking a transfer QB, we'll LIKELY come down to 3 QBs ultimately, but it may be the best 3 we have between the 4 battling in 2022. If we stay with 3, we can very likely stick with the 3, or, the loser of the QB battle between Nuss/Max might hit the portal, leaving us with just 2 QBs. I mean if Howard won the job, now you're definitely talking just 2 QBs probably. That's what we're trying to avoid. I think by taking a 4th QB, it guarantees us with at least 3 QBs for next season.

I prefer having the competition. You are looking for an alpha at the QB position not a beta. More likely to find "the guy" with more competition.

Let them battle it out.
