A recruit’s decision not to enroll at LSU after signing a financial aid agreement has the football program in some hot water.

LSU is banned from signing early enrollee recruits to financial aid agreements for the next two years, and the program will be stripped of 10 percent of its recruiting evaluation days in 2015, according to public records obtained by The Advocate.

The penalties, handed down by the Southeastern Conference and reported by the school Feb. 3, stem from a violation that occurred this fall involving an unnamed recruit.

Dude ended up going to AL according to the report further down (see link). You think AL / Saban recruited him just to hose us?

So LSU is punished for offering financial aid to a recruit who was committed at the time, but now is enrolled at another school?

Read the article at the LINK. It explains it. Not that I understand why it is a violation.

how could there be a violation based on what you do when it depends on the actions of someone else? why would any school take advantage of relaxed recruiting rules associated w/ FAAs if that is the case?

When the Financial Aid agreement is signed, the rules for contacting a recruit are relaxed. If the recruit does not eventually enroll however, the school can be hit with sanctions. Stupid rule. Bama could have had this planned with the Womacks from the start.

There must have been some follow up paperwork to cancel the request for financial aid that didn't get filed.

Kid keeps talking to LSU even though he's switching to Bama. Then after screwing over LSU by committing, signing the papers, and talking to them due to the FAA, he switches to Bama. Who told the SEC that he talked to LSU coaches during dead period? frick that fat frick

So what's the severity of the punishment? It should affect how the class turns out, right?

If it is Womack, this calls for a little on-field justice on some future November evening.

This is really an NCAA problem. They created the issue by allowing unlimited contact with a recruit who signed a financail aid agreeement. The rule should either continue to limit contact, or say that you have unlimited contact until notified, formally, that the kid has decommitted. With kids signing multiple financial aid agreements, no school will know how to protect itself.

Also, didn't a recruit recently refuse to sign a LOI and instead signed a FAA in order to allow him to change his mind? I guess the school has limited contact until he shows up?

So because one recruit is a jerk others that can't afford to attend college can't apply for financial aid. That's just dumb.
