Is he enrolled, or is it too late for that?

Does this change our class ranking?
______________________________________________

The 247 overall class ranking still shows us with 27 overall signees and at #6. Texas is #5 with 32 signees. I don't know if they will continue to update this ranking.

The point is our #6 overall is great for where this staff came in and under the circumstances. I love what the staff has done to rebuild our roster and I am looking forward to the 2022 season opener against the Noles.

Welcome aboard Kolbe!

Nobody knows how good or bad this guy will be. He's a question mark. There's a reason that 247 ranked him what they did. There's not enough tape of him to even change his High School rating

Fields' high school rating - 86.14
Fields' college transfer rating - 86.00

He's, basically, West Weeks with 1 more year of eligibility & no film to judge him on.

Weeks' high school rating - 86.80
Weeks' college transfer rating - 88.00

The good thing with Weeks & Fields is if even if they don't become legit LB's for us...they both have a good chance at playing ST. Both of them have great measurables for ST.

Regarding transfers, I really don't think it's a coincidence that our 2 LB's are our 2 lowest (88.00 & 86.00) ranked positional players. They probably couldn't find any starters, so they opted to take a couple of developmental guys in hopes of developing them into starters instead.

They won't be needed as starters. There was no depth in that room for next year. Someone has to be on special teams or play if a starter goes down. Behind Baskerville and Jones, we've seen very little of Penn, White, and Sampah to know if they are ready. Small coming off major knee surgery. We needed lots of help.

And with the coaching staff CBK brings in, I feel more confident long term than I did w/O.

If you believe enough in your coaching staff and you see some potential that can be worked with, you take it in our situation. It’s a clean slate for both parties, and you either get a starter or quality depth. It’s a win-win, welcome aboard Kolbe!

Weeks and Fields are basically replacements for guys who would traditionally be taken at the back end of a class for future development and depth. In the case of Weeks, he will have 4 years to play 3, but they have plenty of film on him and we know he’s very athletic. Fields barely played, but since he redshirted, we get the full 4 years with him. I’m sure the fact that he’s from LA has a lot to do with him being taken.

It looks like the staff valued these two higher than anyone lower on this class board at linebacker out of LA. The staff taking Fields also tells me the they feel good about developing the returning guys they have plus Perkins to handle this season.

Yeah, they may be "bridge" guys but a couple points why the may be good bridge players:

- They've been in college S&C programs

- It is a very good bet House will use LBs different than Daronte or Pelini. Since the utilization is going to be different what is required, not wanted- required, as far as the player is likely tweaked or slightly different than in recent history.

- As someone else mentioned, there's more film on them to evaluate well beyond what any recruiting rankings, HS or transfer, will have to rely on. My point being there is less unknowns and any rankings or point system now moves even further to the back seat. Especially is the giving school allowed us to get practice film on the player (not really likely but possible).

I do really like that the portal is bringing solid players, but almost more importantly ... Louisiana kids coming home. Think of the ripple effect of having those guys back home for so many family, friends, and communities. This builds lots of good will with coaches and key community influencers and leaders as you begin recruiting your rosters of the future. Very smart move.
