Hopefully his team travels to SW Florida. I'll have to check their schedule...

he's on his way, his numbers will only go up with age and development

i would work on the deadlift form though, there was a bit of disconnect between his legs and lower back, you can see his lower back rise before the weight started moving which put more stress in that area

I said before his highlights are extremely impressive and he is very well spoken. He is very dedicated and has a great work ethic. He is going to be the QB after Nuss without question in my opinion.

Sure, I understand that. If he were competing, I’d switch him to a “sumo” stance. At any rate, he’s still using way too much back.

I definitely don't share your credentials. You think he's using too much back, but would switch him to sumo? Switching to sumo is taking legs out of the lift even more so, no?

Sorry it’s taken me a bit to respond.

I wouldn’t switch anyone to sumo unless they were competing as a powerlifter. I’d still keep him “conventional”, but I’d work with him to get his butt tucked in and his upper truck more upright. Something as small as widening his stance just a little, and having him keep his eyes focused on the corner of where the ceiling meets the wall, could have him using much more legs and less back.

No, sumo involves much more legs than back. In particular, it puts much more emphasis on the upper quadrant of the thigh muscles and glute group. It’s harder to get the weight off the ground, but easier to finish the lift. It uses much less back, and therefore more legs, allowing the lifter to achieve a higher potential max. That’s why this is beneficial for the powerlifter.

For strength and conditioning, for a football player, I’d keep him conventional but change his form, in order to keep him safe but working on explosion. Particularly for the QB, the glute medius is very important for helping them use their torso to augment their pass. Basically, power transfer from the base all the way up and through the arm during the pass.

Hope this helps!

That’s a solid and informative post. I appreciate it, even if it’s probably doing me more good than Colin lol.

56% completion rate and only a 2 to 1 TD/INT ration...in 2A ball.

Myeh. Hopefully that's based on other factors but it's not promising.

Person on discussion board says he don’t like what he’s seeing. There we have it folks, Hurley will be a bust probably from injury.

Boy, that's quite a leap you took, going from what I said to this. Literally the first thing I said was that it was impressive. I didn't realize we couldn't make observations on this board without morons like landrywasbeast30 putting words in my mouth. I never said or suggested that the kid would be a bust because of an injury. I just simply stated that I hope he doesn't hurt his back from lifting so much weight. You're naive if you don't think that the slightest imperfection in technic when lifting that much weight could lead to injury.

didn't look like the best form on the deadlift

Meh his hips rose a little early but it's not abnormal to sacrifice a bit of form when you're pushing your max.

I get some caleb williams vibes from him. They have very similar builds with the thick legs and thighs.
