You can’t count on a freshman OL.

Brian Kelly prob sat in the film room shaking his head about how atrocious our OL was the last few years.

The Center may have been the worst offensive lineman in all of college football.

I think you are thinking Kelvin Banks.

Tre'Mond isn't quite what we need for C. Not saying he isn't a take if we have room, but we should get a C as priority first and see where the chips fall in regards to Shorts later.

Rafiti Ghirmai is a name some might remember (UT). He's an OT but was the reserve center. He's a grad transfer; I don't think he's picked a destination yet.

Oluwatimi (the Cav C mentioned previously) is a Michigan lean and is considering withdrawing from the portal. We should be hammering him from the perspective of a straight out poach & pay. If he's considering staying we're losing that battle. Ghirmai should be looked at hard if that is the case.

We keep going this way and bring in all these bulls on the line, we might get to see a running game again. Now with Citizen and Etienne still out there this should help give us some leverage with the guys

Shorts isn't a center but could def play tackle or guard.

He might be able to play center.

To me, Garrett Dellinger is the center I'd go with. He's got athleticism and he's supposedly the smartest lineman we have outside of Shanahan (who was plenty smart but less athletic than any of the bouncers at the Tigerland bars).

If not Dellinger, then Martinez.

But Short has the feet to play tackle. He actually has the feet to play left tackle, if you watch his East Tennessee State film.

I want this kid bad. He's really good. He's a plug and play guy who gets drafted pretty high after a year in the SEC.

Shorts doesn't look like a center at all.

Dellinger isn't going to play center either.

I think he can probably play tackle.

He looked good against that competition.

Ethan Pocic didn't look like a center, and yet he was a 2nd round draft pick after he played there for us.

Short is built little heavier than Cushenberry, but he's otherwise pretty similar. What we don't know about him is how fast he can get off the ball as an interior lineman because he's been playing left tackle. One assumes that with his good feet, he might be able to adapt to center.

I don't know that I'd ask him to, though. I like a Miles Frazier-Tre'Mond Short pair at the tackles.

As for Dellinger, he looks an awful lot like lots of NFL centers. Smart kids who go 6-4 or 6-5 and a little more than 300 pounds with some get-off at the line of scrimmage, assuming they've got enough athleticism to deliver a reliable shotgun snap? Yeah. He might be that. I don't know what you think a center is supposed to look like.

I'm not necessarily talking about size.

I'm talking about movement and build.

We will see next year if dellinger or shorts are playing center.

Is this a “plug and play” quality guy? Or will be more of a help with depth guy?
most definitely yes.

There's never enough S&C... but he's ready to go. Very strong, uses leverage/balance ok, moves well, somewhat inconsistent (gets lulled to sleep?), just needs to refine (as opposed to develop) his technique (especially leverage/balance).

As long as there's room and (hopefully we find one- on roster or in portal) he's a take. Can play OG and OT; OT is natural position and he's experienced, obviously.

I like your thinking all around, I mentioned Dellinger as a good option at Center after a good offseason. I'd love to see Frazier&Campbell at Tackles, Shorts&Jones at OG and Dellinger at C. Start them at those spots and let them compete. I hate to say it but I'm just not impressed with anyone from this year's o line but I do think Dellinger has very good potential at C once he's added 15lbs
