If we were like FSU or Ole Piss coming off a relatively mediocre ESD and we had to nail the portal to prop up the talent level, that would be a problem. But that’s not what’s happening. We just signed a strong class and have an even better one currently taking shape. The portal isn’t a crutch for this staff. It’s just a useful tool to help them rebuild on the fly.

LSU has a top 10 HS class and #1 portal class. I'd say yeah, we want to be there as we're covering both grounds.

Not to mention the fact that our 2 highest-rated transfers were true freshmen this year. Those guys will basically turn into an extension of our 2022 class.

This is the wave of the future. Increasingly great programs will use lesser programs as feeder schools. They will let other schools develop a player for a year or two, let those schools take chances on guys with issues that kept them from being a HS take, and the ones that work out will be able to play immediately for an already good team.
its going to be an almost de facto minor league system.
LSU is still in roster rebuild so they take more guys, but from here on out, get used to it. They are going to use the Portal as Free Agency to fill immediate needs, and HS Recruiting as essentially the Draft.

Not sure who gave this fool an upvote. Every team tries to strike in the portal, density. Portal is becoming nearly as vital as recruiting because you’re generally getting a proven product. Jameson Williams, Justin Fields, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray, etc, have came out the portal. Just spewing

As I said, the smart, big time programs will sort of treat it like the NFL:
Portal = Free Agency
HS recruiting = Draft
Portal = Free Agency
HS recruiting = Draft
