Probably should pick up a ‘25 punter from high school as well.

Major schools have zero need to recruit specialists out of high school anymore.

Let them go to smaller schools and transfer. See if they have what it takes at the college level.

Is LSU really going to punt this season?

If only because the lack of coaching and recruiting talent at major universities. Most, cough…LSU, couldn’t tell a good specialist from a bad one…so yea, let someone else figure all that out.

Kicking talent varies year to year…but there generally are a couple-few can’t miss guys. After that its a crap shoot.

Crazy. Todd was the top ranked punter out of high school and most likely will never play at LSU.

Todd has the yips and never could get over it. If he connects on one, it goes a country mile, but he can't do it consistently.

His stats on ESPN are incomplete. The stats on the LaTech site give you a better representation of his skillset.

https://latechsports.com/sports/football/roster/blake--ochsendorf/12797

17 punts of 50 plus yards, 18 inside the 20, 5 touchbacks, and 25 of 53 punts fair caught.

We’ll see if Todd has the will to compete…I hope he does. Two big ole kids.

That's a shame. Guess the lights are just too bright for the fella.

This is a head-scratcher here - I had a former LSU kicker tell me Todd was going to be a super star when he first arrived on campus.

Yes, he can you GD a-hole! Hey retarded idiot, you and the other morons who have to post that message every time LSU signs another position, get a GD life! That was funny maybe the FIRST time someone said it but now you and the other sloths just come off as complete MORONS! frick you...I'm guessing this board is sick of it!

Special teams has sucked since BK has arrived from returners to punters.

Sounds like you don't watch LSU games. The ND transfer punter has done fine the couple of years at LSU. As far as punters and placekickers go, unlike the recruiting services who apparently don't even bother doing realistic rating of them, IMO they are two of the most important players on the field. PK probably decide as many games as any player other than QB. And good punters like A&M usually has keeps them in games when their offense is 3 and out most of the time. One team last year...I think it was Arkansas or Auburn..was a real liability against LSU. The punter I'm thinking of was like a HS caliber punter and LSU gained field position every time on change of possession. I consider this an incredibly important signee given his 46 ypp average and being name CUSA punter. Also, people keep saying Todd doesn't look like he can do the job and the former ND finally used up his eligibility.

Specialists go through Kohl’s or Chris Sailer to get evaluated…still though, it’s up to the schools to do their due diligence. Generally it’s difficult because coaches and analysts change jobs so much (this transfer is the only specialists chosen by the current staff).

I have met more than one special teams coach that didn’t seem interested in or happy about their coaching position…not true with all ST coaches…but it can definitely be a temporary gig.

Huh? Brian Kelly brought Jay Bramblett his punter when he was Notre Dame to LSU and was the punter for the last 2 years.

Blah blah blah! Sounds like you don't watch LSU if you think it has been A+.

I guess it has been best thing the program has going for it since they brought in a transfer punter and another returner. I guess you forgot 2 yrs in row of muffin punts 1st game of year against FSU or it was fake? Lol

Blah, blah, blah yourself. Once again, the punting has been fine for years. Perhaps you don't know how to read but I didn't mention punt returners did I? So I didn't forget anything...I didn't even mention it. But since you brought up punt returning, I will address that now. Anderson was the one who fumbled the FSU punt and he never was punt returner again during the season. Clayton did a great job of fair catching but for sure, you don't advance the ball when just catching it. The best punt return I remember by LSU was about 25 yards by Nicholas who came in from the side on a punt by A&M and ran straight up the field.

I never said anything was A+ but yeah, PUNTING was fine. Jay B's punts were of decent length and not line drives with good hang time. The La Tech punter was all conference and 13th ranked nationally. Kelly has done a fine job of bringing in special team players. If you don't believe that, then glad you don't do talent evaluation for LSU.

Jay Bramblett was the punter here for 2 years succeeding Von Rosenburg.
I believe Ochsendorf the La Tech transfer only has 1 year of eligibility left.
