I'm pretty sad to hear about DD's retirement, and so sad we got so close to getting her that natty she really deserved. But I'm also quite happy with the way she announced her retirement. No country-wide farewell tour, no taking the limelight from any seniors. A really classy and no-nonsense announcement, which seems really fitting and nice in its own very special way.

The Courtney McCool-Griffeth talk as a replacement for Jay is kind of interesting. Jay coached her at UGA, and her network is impressive having been a GAGE gymnast and coached at both Texas Dreams and Cincinnati. I think it is her husband however, Garrett Griffeth that might actually get hired. He's as close as a young Jay Clark as you can basically be. Look at their recent stints, Arkansas and Utah, if you hire one you get both. The only problem, Garrett is a vault coach (and recruiter) and Courtney is a floor coach. Not that you can't coach other events, but that's what they're known for. It could possibly cause issues with current staff, Bob and ACKT. I used the word “possibly”.
Which does make Buggs an attractive option here. I like her as a beam coach – I remember being shocked a few years back at Super Six when she was on podium with the girls in Finals. I figured D-D would want to be up there, but that shows a lot of trust to allow her to be the last person talking to the athlete.
I imagine there are several dark horses out there we’re not even considering, but I can promise you this - whoever Jay hires will be a homerun. He’s too strong of a recruiter not to be able to bring in top talent for this vacancy.

I don’t think someone who is a vault specialist coach is a bad thing at all. Bob Moore won’t be around forever. How old is he? The new AC will be able to coach all events and then will be there for when Moore steps down.

Not watching gymnastics when Jay was head coach at Georgia what was the problem there? From what i've seen he looks like he will be a fine HC. Was it the old Georgia head coach (the one with all the championships) interfering? Haven't heard anything good about her.

Anyone following the Texas Dreams drama? Reagan and Kiya both trained there.

I have been questioning Texas Dreams methods for a long time. Most of their athletes are always injured. None make Worlds or Olympic teams due to injuries. The list of injured athletes include Bailey Key, Peyton Ernst, Abbie Walker, Emma Malabuyo, Sydney Barros, Annie Beard, Ragan Smith, Deanne Soza, Ari Guerrra...the list goes on and on.

Ragan was the only one who truly had success, becoming the National AA champ in 2017 and making it to Worlds. Kiana Winston and Kennedy Baker had success at the NCAA level. But Baker came out this week alleging abuse by Chris and Kim, echoing Ashton Kim's comments. When will this end? I literally feel sick to my stomach every time I read one of these stories. It angers me to my core.

Isn't this the knock on all elite gymnasts that there always injured. Is it just a byproduct of them being trained to the Nth degree or are we saying that it's straight up abuse? I've never had a kid in gymnastics but from what i have seen on tv these kids are trained like crazy to get the most out of there abilities and are injuries just waiting to happen. Especially on beam. And we know kids at the ages they start gymnastics there focus is about 3 seconds long and if there going to be at the top they have to be pushed. Now having said that it ultimately falls on PARENTS to protect the kids.

I should say a lot of it is attributed to overtraining. And ignoring the fact that athletes are in pain.

They’ve had a very high rate of gymnasts excelling at the junior elite stage who struggle immensely with injuries once they turn senior. Heck, some of their star juniors don’t even make it to college due to injuries. If you read Ashton or Kennedy’s statements on Texas dreams, they list out all the injuries they had while training there, it seemed pretty shocking to me, not to mention the racism and emotional abuse of having to hug someone who had just spent the whole day yelling at you -that would drive me crazy.

Shame have recruited all this talent in gymnastics football and basketball and it will all be for naught if we fold up. Lots of money and lots of hard work. Not to mention some of these recruits are going to scatter like squirrels.

Why would these athletes transfer elsewhere over their prior choice of LSU once they return to action?

Even if true, wouldn't LSU also benefit from athletes leaving other schools? In fact there might be a temporary
" razoo " with unfettered free agency. This would seem to inure to the benefit of the top programs. A player like running back Benny Snell at Kentucky or John Ehret product linebacker DeJon Harris who had an incredible career at Arkansas might decide to look at moving to a top rated program. They would get more exposure and play for championships without siting out a year.. This same exodus might occur in all sports.

You give a kid 6 months to think about something theres no telling what thell talk themselves into. And yes we may pick up so recruits but i emagine the coaches pretty much have the lineup they want. Well have some soph. Well never see again. Maybe stingly and Chase. And i know there not gymnastics im sure the girls well hang tight.

Was thinking stingly was a soph. He's so good. Ignore that please. LOL!

I just saw on Sami’s Instagram that Ruby is moving in with her and whoever else her roommates are. I wasn’t aware of Ruby’s plans, whether she was back home or still in the US. Would it be a stretch to think that she could possibly be staying on as an assistant or volunteer coach?

I don't really know about the Ruby thing. But I also saw that Kennedi is moving in with Reagan. Don't know what they are up to in terms of coaching and stuff. By the way, someone asked about Reagan and Texas Dreams, today she reposted Ragan Smith's text thanking the coaches and etc.

I know Kennedi is staying around for another year (I think doing grad school) so she’s roommates with Reagan this year as well as Christina, Bridget and Gracen. It makes sense that she would stay in BR for one more year, especially since her boyfriend is a football player and has one more year at LSU. As for Ruby, I know that because she’s from England, there are a few more classes and prerequisites she needed to take freshman year which means she is graduating later than Ashlyn and Kennedi did (I may be wrong though). As for coaching, I’m guessing both will be asked to help coaching quite a bit this year especially with DD having just retired and ACK having just had a baby

We all know that D-D was a huge proponent of difficulty. But do you all think Jay will take a different approach and take out some of the more difficult elements? This mainly pertains to bars and beam. I think floor was fine this year but the composition was sometimes questionable.
