"Despite being selected in the 18th round (528th overall) of the latest Major League Baseball draft by the San Diego Padres, Sanders said he has elected to stay in college and play baseball for the LSU Tigers next year."

"He was ranked the 10th best junior college prospect in the country by www.perfectgame.org and attended pre-draft workouts in front of the Padres, Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves."

"He will enter LSU as a junior, can hit 96 miles per hour with his fastball and also throws a curveball, a slider and a changeup.

Sanders will be able to re-enter the draft and maybe get selected in a higher round or get more money next year."

Wow. How'd he go in the 18th round with an arm like that? He must have control issues.

A 96mph heater combined with known control issues will prevent batters from crowding the plate...

50 walks in 43 innings is the issue. Hopefully he can get that worked out.

Definitely comes from a great bloodline! Scott was a hell of a pitcher

If Hess indeed moves to the starting rotation as we fully expect he could end up being the closer.

This is his issues but he did have 59 K's in 43 innings.

Sounds a lot like Hess. It seemed like Hess either struck out or walked the batter. No in-between.

Hopefully he is better than Hunter Kiel.
Kiel's wildness has extended to minor league ball as well.
Kiel could have been that arm LSU could have really used against Florida where pitching was at a premium.

Heck, in the picture with the article he kind of looks like a thinner Hess. May be the "Wild-Thing" glasses he wears.

Yeah, this is why I wouldn't get too excited over this kid. Very Hunter Kiel-esque. Sometimes, you can get a guy under control who has control issues, but many times you cannot. Dunn/Mainieri have also shown time and again if you walk a guy an inning you're not pitching. I hope he gets it figured out under Dunn, wish he had more than probably just 1 year.

Fastball command is an issue here

Not bashing, just asking: Does he have 3 other quality pitches?

Often times, guys that come in with 4 pitches really only have 2 effective pitches at best.

Have you seen him pitch? I assume with that velocity he's throwing 4-seamers. Does he seem to overthrow?

That's a reasonable question. Guys that command 3+ pitches and sit 93-94 don't normally fall to the 18th round and get low balled on the offer. So the assumption would be no. He's a velo guy that needs work on his command and his secondary pitches.

Good project to have on campus. LSU needs arms. If his stuff is that electric he can afford to walk a guy here and there. Don't automatically assume he will be like Kiel. That's profiling and profiling is wrong

That's huge news. He will probably go into the season as our Fridya night guy immediately. Still sucks so much about Walker, though. We could have had a 1-2 punch just like that...

Easternrio doesn't know shite.

Hes just assuming he has command issues because he throws hard and wasn't drafted early.

Don't pay attention to anything that idiot says.
