Is there mutual interest in Brandon Murray?
He is visiting Ole Miss and he will also need a waiver to play next season.

2 solid pickups neither will be a star but solid players need about 3 more transfers to be competitive

Phillips is obviously an athletic big, and he was learning to control that big body, but he still grabbed rebounds and blocked shots at a high level for a freshman. He grabbed 12 rebounds per 40 minutes as a true freshman, but if you count his last 9 games against SEC opponents, starting with the Alabama game on 2/4, then he averaged 13.6 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per 40 minutes. That's about 3 more rebounds and nearly 2 more blocks than anyone else on LSU's team per 40 minutes over the season, and Phillips got those numbers against SEC opponents. Compare that to Kavell Bigby-Williams that averaged 12.2 and 3.4 over 40 minutes for his career, but 11.3 and 3.1 his freshman year. So Phillips rebounded better than Kavell and was comparable on blocks. Phillips will get better every year, but he already has shown some game. He was obviously very raw coming out of HS, but he showed gradual improvement throughout the year, and passed the eye test. I would be shocked if he doesn't become a foundational player for some team by his Junior year, and gets drafted.

If Cooks can play this year, we'll win a lot more games! If we can replace KJ, I think we can be a tournament team. Getting Cook and Wright may attract some players, but especially Cook, so getting him early may pay extra dividends.

Supposedly, he is going to texas tech.
I wonder what the connection is.

Please tell me you’re not trying to sell me on those statistics to someone who averaged 7 minutes a game. No where near the sample size.

Cook is an awesome get, and Wright is nice, but we're desperate for bigs. All we have left over 6'6 are Chest at 6'8, Fountain at 6'9, and Reed at 6'10, but he plays smaller. We need 2 more big rebounders to be competitive. I really want Phillips to return, but this point, I'd even be okay with getting Kendal Coleman to return. Heck, maybe we can get Efton Reid to come back, because he showed improvement at Gonzaga, and he might get a waiver like Cook if he came back.

Cook had damn well better be a star, or this won't go well at all.
When you get a guy who scored 20 a game in the AAC (remember, that's the conference Tari Eason came from and he scored 7 a game before we got him), you're going to expect him to be a high-end player.

He got 100 minutes of playing time in the his last 9 games, and those were his averages over 40 minutes. That is enough of a sample size when it is against SEC opponents. Also, when I watch him play and move, I see his potential.

Athletically, inefficient reasons include the lack or change of an student-athlete’s participation, including no participation opportunity, a reduction in playing time or a change in the student-athlete’s position or role on the team. Additionally, no waiver will be granted for a potential change in the student-athlete’s athletics scholarship, or a coaching change, the latter becoming one of the biggest reasons for transferring we’ve seen in college athletics over recent seasons.
The recently issued NCAA memo laid out a very narrow view of who will be eligible for waivers moving forward.

ON3 has LSU at 100% on Will Baker and Amaree Abram.

Amaree would give us another PG. He is a 36.4% 3 point shooter and 43% from 2 at Ole Miss, and a 47.9% eFG, so that would be a welcome upgrade, because both of the Justices were both below 37% in eFG.
Baker is actually 59.9% in eFG, which is better than KJ who was 55.6%, so I like that. If we get these 2, we'll be done, since we already have 11 on board.

Miller opens another spot. And I would imagine someone else may enter, especially if we need a spot.

Oh yea I feel like we might see one or two more leave from the team.

It's not like there's anybody off last year's roster that you can categorically say we couldn't improve on through the portal.
We went 2-16 in the SEC.
I just looked at the thread on the Rant about Miller leaving and some of those guys are howling about the "bad fans" happy to see him go. But the fact is he was awful last year, so much so that both he and we would be better off for the separation.
He shot 33.6 percent from the floor. 31.6 percent from the three point line. He had 2.1 turnovers to only 1.7 assists per game. Just 0.8 steals per game, and just 2.3 rebounds per game. All of that despite playing 33 minutes per game, the most on the team.
Those numbers get you beat. And Miller got us beat.
Now - it's fair to say that he was hoisting up bombs because we were utterly awful offensively outside of KJ and somebody had to shoot or else we'd just have shot clock violations most of the time. But 33.6 percent from the floor is a disaster.
You can't replace him with somebody who puts up those kinds of numbers this coming year. Frankly, I can't imagine you would. MacMahon's recruiting would have to be worse than even I think it is for that to be the case. Cook, Wright, Carlos Stewart and Amoree Abram all project to be better than this.

Is Carlos Stewart in play for LSU?
Posted on 4/7/23 at 5:51 pm to Lapaz
Has he entered yet. Some posted there were rumors around Dunham, but I haven’t seen him enter portal as of yesterday.
Posted on 4/7/23 at 6:00 pm to Lapaz
The rumor in Baton Rouge is that Stewart is coming. Same people who first said Wright and then Cook were coming are now saying Stewart is. It's entirely possible they're wrong, but they've been right so far.
He's not officially in the portal that I've seen.
