Looks like Wright and Cook are likely. Certainly an upgrade to the backcourt with Wright. Hopefully Cook’s success translates to the SEC. Wade seemed to have made his mind up on Gains when Cook was here before without allowing it to play out, thought he had earned more playing time.
You also have to think (hope) LSU is in contact with LJ Cryer out of Baylor. He's a NOLA native that was recruited by LSU out of HS. He started every game for Baylor last year on a team that was one of the best offensively in the country. He was their 3rd leading scorer last season, and looks to be their best returning player. Him transferring seems odd unless he was unhappy with the fit there and/or is seeking a big NIL bag.
Cook has been a solid player for Tulane. But the AAC is not the Big 12. So when you are scoring 15 ppg, shooting 42% from three and 89% from the FT line in that league you are doing something. Cryer is only listed at 6'1, so I doubt LSU would be interested at taking multiple very small guards
The problem is LSU may not be willing to put the NIL bag out there other school probably would.

I actually think his shooting numbers will bounce up next season
I think Miller's biggest issue this season was shot selection moreso that simply being a poor shooter. He took a LOT of tough 3's. It's hard to make a high % of strongly contested 3's; off-balance 3's, etc. He was reluctant most of the year to drive to the basket. But when he did, he often found success.
There is ability there. The coaches have to get him in better spots to succeed. Just running off basic pindowns and taking rushed, contested 3's or 30 ft 3's aint it.

I’ve got the same concern. Would love Cryer, just not sure we’re opening up the checkbook enough to get guys like him.

I would be drop-dead shocked to see Cryer come here.
He's a guy who lands at a Kentucky or a Duke or a Kansas, not an LSU.
But if MacMahon scrapes together enough of a bag to pull Cryer I would say maybe things aren't as dire as they seem.

I said it during the season too- Miller was very inconsistent offensively but at least he was someone the defense guarded out there. A lot of the contested looks were because they didn’t respect anyone other than KJ and Miller behind the arc.
Also a possibility he regains some of his burst and athleticism another year removed from the ACL surgery.
I don’t think Miller is someone you look to recruit over. He’s someone with the potential to look a lot better with a better supporting cast/bill of health.

On3 had him as the 60th ranked overall player in the Portal.

Finished with 15+ points in 6 of his last 8 games. All coming against NCAA tournament or NIT opponents.

FWIW, On3 has Jalen Cook (13) ranked one spot ahead of Cryer (14) in their Transfer Portal rankings. No one will dispute Cook has been good at Tulane and it would be nice to get him back. But I'd still lean towards the guy who has gotten it done in the Big 12 (annually the toughest conference in the nation) over the AAC

Either Cook or Cryer would be great, but it just seems like Cryer is bag hunting.

Get cook and bj Mack and that’s a solid haul

Cook I could see as he would be playing better competition in an effort to increase his draft stock
LJ Cryer...that seems like a pipe dream

Cook will have to get a waiver b/c he has used his one-time transfer. The NCAA just issued a memo clarifying the waiver process, and most have interpreted this memo to mean that the waiver process will be very restrictive.
quote:
“A waver process remains available for undergraduate transfer student-athletes who do not qualify for the one-time transfer exception; however there have been changes made to the ties of requests that will be considered.”
The NCAA then went onto explain the three reasons where an undergraduate transfer waiver would only be considered, citing specific circumstances. Per the NCAA, those reasons are as follow, effective for 2023-24 champions eligibility:
1. For reasons related to the student-athlete’s physical or mental well-being;
2. Due to exigent circumstances outside the student-athlete’s control (e.g., physical or sexual assault or discrimination based on a protected class); or
3. Assertions involving diagnosed education impacting disabilities
There are a lot of 2nd-time transfers in the portal that will either be sitting out next year or returning to their current school.
Mack seems like a legit possibility. He was one of the first bigs to enter the portal and got a lot of interest from big time schools, but as more bigs have entered, his stock has fallen. Most transfer rankings now have him outside the Top 100.

I honestly think cook will be able to get a waiver because he’s transferring back to a school that he’s played for before
Just my 2 cents

Beggars can't be choosers. If we're going to lose, I just assume watch the game and the seventies or eighties

I get where you are coming from, but that doesn't meet any of the three criteria that the NCAA laid out in the memo.
