If I remember correctly we started Wright, Williams and Stewart at the beginning of the year. I am pretty sure Stewart was meant to play the point of those 3, especially with Hannibal coming off the bench.
Which is another thing Hannibal had been key for CMM for the 2 previous seasons before coming into this one. Unless he was hurt at the beginning which I don’t recall, why was Stewart starting over him? If it was Hannibal in question I think we’d all agree he’d have a role on this team.

We did start those 3. But Mike was the PG and Carlos the SG. Which was really super confusing, considering Mike was a SG in high school and Carlos was ball dominant at SC. Makes zero sense imo.

Agreed. Coming into the season (with cook ineligible bc of transfer) I thought Carlos would be the 1 and Mike the 2. All the tape led to this conclusion… then McMahon comes out and has their roles flipped. And both really struggle in this position (I wasn’t surprised).
Then Carlos gets hurt and Mike transitions to off ball with cook and wright handling the ball most of the time and Mike plays way better. Go figure

Mike played fairly well at the point. But Stewart was no help at all. You would think that if Stewart was all that at point he would have handled the ball more, but he never did. If you are playing the 2 but can handle the point, you will find ways to do it. If your teammates think you can do it, they will get you the ball.
I know as a fan you might like to see Sewart out there for a few minutes as the sole option at point so you can judge for yourself, but there has to be a reason he wouldn't even help bring the ball up, or at least as I can remember.

If he can’t play the point and sucks off the ball…. then why is he on the team

Can Stewart take the Dean role, of being on the team but not on scholarship?
Miller would be a huge get.
The theoretical future line up of up of Givens, Williams, Miller, Chest, and Williams would have to be a top 25 lineup nationally right?

Your expectations for chest is entirely too high. Miller, Miller and Givens will be role players at best next year as freshman, much less rounding at a top 25 lineup. As far the future, it would be entirely too early to tell how any of those guys develop.

I wasn’t really talking about next season. More so 2-3 years from now. All but one would be too 100 commits ratings wise. The development part would be very telling of how good of a coach CMM actually is.

Even then, it doesn’t really work like that. Even with V Miller, we are still a middle of the pack signing class in the SEC. Other teams are recruiting better and the portal will continue to be a big factor. Odds are, that will never even be a starting 5 we will see.

Chest is solid. Not super skilled, but the type of guy every team needs. Effort, energy, high motor, good rebounder, athletic. He will be a solid player

If it takes another 2 to 3 years to determine if McMahon is the right coach for LSU, it will just be that much less excitement from the fans and donors,IMO.
He needs to be in the tournament next year. If his team finishes lower than this year, he needs another job.

I don't know if I agree that he has to be in the tournament next year. This is a team that is losing 60% of their scoring and 55% of their rebounding. Also this year's team had a relatively easy SEC schedule getting Arkansas, Vanderbilt, and Georgia twice as well as State and Ole Piss both at home. That played a significant role in this team's success in my opinion.
However the thing we as a fan base can't accept is this team not playing with effort, and the returning players not showing signs of improvement. The effort we gave against North Texas in a home "win and advance" game was an embarrassment.
If we can finish middle of the pack SEC next year, get an NIT bid and make a strong showing winning at least one, that would be a successful season to me. Then the following year we will have a full team of his recruits, and that's when our final judgement should be made.
Frankly next year I would rather make a championship run like Georgia is doing right now in the NIT, then going one and done in the tournament.

You can roll out all the excuses you want to for McMahon, but other than his first year, Wade had ZERO PROBLEM getting us in the tournament.
Had Wade been left in place, we'd probably have been a top 5 seed in a region, not pissing our pants over a girl's team (N Texas) bending us over in the NIT in our own arena.
In this day and age, with all of the uncertainty involved (NIL and portal), all you can really ask for is to make the tournament each year, and every so often get on a few deep runs and hopefully catch lightning in a bottle one year and win it all.

Instead now Wade is in the Southland competing against an actual women's college. But yes they do get an automatic bid so when Wade beats out the other "special" teams they can get blown out in the dance.

LSU is not alone in losing a lot of production. That's commonplace now in this era of rampant transferring. It's not an excuse anymore. The good coaches/program restock their roster from year to year and get it done. Alabama lost 5 of their top 6 scorers from last year's No. 1 seed team. In total they lost 10 scholarship players from last season. They followed it up by brining in 8 new players, getting a 4 seed, and now going to the Final Four.

This past season there was only one holdover from Wade's final LSU team, Wilkinson. It was fully McMahon's roster with HIS players (he recruited the transfers). So it is time for all of the non-sensical excuses to end and for him to start producing. If results similar to this past season is the best he can do then why continue on to hope for mediocrity? He'll have to replace a ton of production after next season as well because that is now the norm in college basketball. So if he can't win after 3 swings at putting together a winning roster why would you expect year 4 to be any different?
Stop looking at college basketball through the antiquated lens of the pre-freedom of transfer era. Roster building has COMPLETELY changed. So either he adapts and can win in that climate or you move on and find someone who can.

And until you said something I would bet 95% of posters didn't even know Georgia was still in the NIT. It's so irrelevant now that they don't even play the championship in NYC anymore and many teams choose not to participate. Hell, LSU fans didn't even care given the home NIT game drew the smallest home crowd of the season! This mindset would be akin to saying I'd rather see LSU win the Liberty Bowl than reach the college football playoffs and lose the first game.
If LSU ever gets to a point where they are happier winning a meaningless and irrelevant tournament over reaching the playoffs with an opportunity to continue advancing towards a national championship then they might as well disband the program.
