I’m sure Paz had a nice nil deal that Jay can allocate elsewhere instead

I doubt Jay denied Paz’s return unless he felt his entrance was nefarious.

It makes sense to me. I doubt Jay personally cares about it being awkward but he certainly cares about the culture. He’s mentioned how much he prioritizes that and how not doing so has bit him in the butt numerous times. It also sets a precedent that we don’t play games with stuff like that so be very very sure if you are an lsu player who wants to enter the portal in the future.

I’ll add that the announcement piece was an assumption on my part given that the draft is tomorrow. I don’t know exactly when it’ll go public.

It is a pitcher.

Coaches don’t think like fans do. So it probably does make sense to most fans.

Can you clarify what you mean by that?

Fans are spiteful. Coaches arent.

Understood and I agree with you there.

While I agree, we have heard what happens when Jay doesn't get a recruit or one flips (like Kling).

I think the message Jay would like to send (using Paz as an example) is you don't get to tell me at the exit meeting that you'll be back and accept an NIL offer, only to enter the portal days before it closes. Assuming that's what happened, and given that he mentioned Paz in numerous interviews, it feels like that happened.

I am certainly more forgiving than most when it comes to talented players and allowing them to bend the rules, but I think you can look at things on a case by case bases. In Paz's case, I think Jay wanted to send a message - You don't let the program be held hostage by a high potential low production sophomore. If Paul Skenes does that, you let him come back.

All speculation and interpretation on my part.

The only valid reason he would say no would be if they already accepted another player into his roster spot.

Everything else is based on feelings and isn’t how good leaders react. Thats how fans react.

I think that’s an over simplistic way of looking at this. Someone who leads an organization as big as LSU Baseball has to consider so many variables. We don’t know the full details of how everything went down but I could understand if it would be really hard to trust a player who did something like that. Not to mention how the rest of the team would take that, and CJJ has said plenty of times that he wants players to have a “we before me” mentality. One way to look at it is Paz weeeded himself out of being a future lockeroom problem.

I wonder if this is more of an agent decision than anything. Using the portal as leverage to up the NIL. Happens in football all the time but I don’t see Jay putting up with that. I think he’s mentioned in the past this is how he will go about things like this.

Well, It's really not that deep. He either entered the portal for A)More money or B) a better opportunity.

Jay on TigerRag radio the other night mentioned he was surprised because they gave him extra opportunities to develop. So it sounds like there is more to it that just money.

Futhermore, re: "exit interviews"; shite changes. Players become available in the portal that are good enough to force a team to change their plans for the next season. Just because Paz was happy in late May does not mean he liked where he fell on the depth chart in late June when he entered the portal.

Johnson has had a whole team full of transfer players for the last 5 years that left their old teams. I can promise you he is not as emotional about as fans are.

All that said, I am officially over internet rumors for the rest of 2026. I dont even believe what poster said to begin with.

Moscona draft risk.

He did mention that LSU made a good offer at Sheerin.

I think we still lose him, but it should help our odds.

3 weeks ago Nolan Cain was poaching Paz. If this was money related, why hasn’t he taken the bag? It’s easy to create false narratives & people just eat it up
