You can most likely assume Jones is gone and Larson can slide to first. Pearson will probably have a spot in the outfield.

You also have DH they can rotate around etc

Was kinda thinking that dude from Indiana State would slide into the DH role if Jones comes back

I agree with Pearson. I just think Larson and Brown have higher upside potential if Jones does end up returning. Jay likes Pearson a lot though so he's not going to disappear.

I’d also be surprised if Braswell comes back next year. What’s the word on Kucherak? I feel like he has a real shot to be our starting SS next year. Obviously depends on what Braswell decides to do and the portal.

Is the is the dream scenario?

OF - Coriel, Pearson, Larson, Brown
1b - Bear
2nd - Milam
SS - Kilen
3rd - ?
C -?

Not knowing who plays 3B and C is much closer to a nightmare scenario.

I don’t think there is anyway Jones comes back and he probably should not if I was in his shoes.

lol I put question marks because idk what is going to happen there. Maybe someone else can fill me in?

We aren’t going to upgrade at 3b but it’s honestly possible to be as good or better than every other position in 2024 if by some miracle we keep Bear.

Over spend on Kilen to plant at SS and get Fountain through the draft then you’ll have your day 1 3B. He will need some development as he is similar to a freshman Bear with his combination of power + swing and miss, but he’s a dude.

I feel like we'd know something by now, but I have hope.
Retaining Braswell and adding Kilen would give you a VERY good infield, with Hernandez and/or Jones at first.
I'd be curious who got moved to 3rd out of Bras and Kilen though.

Braswell has a live arm, and from what I can remember most of his errors at short came on balls he had to sit back and wait on, so he may find more success at third. Just doesn’t have that power in his bat we’re used to having at third.

Why is anyone assuming Braswell will be back ?

Yeah I feel like people are lacking faith in a talented Louisville shortstop and banking on a guy who is going to lose all of his leverage coming back and earned a draft pick

I was listening to Moscona today and he said, that Kilen is a projected mid first round draft pick next year.

Curiel is great but I'm not as sold as most. He is a little skinny and I don't believe he has developed physically as much as people expected. The ceiling is very high for him, but I'm not 100% convinced we see it as a freshman. I'm basing that off of very little information, so I could be completely wrong. We will see how he looks in the fall.

I also heard today that Sheerin spin rate would be top 10 in MLB. The guy has the stuff to start in the rotation. We will see if he can handle the step up in competition. We also have him for two years.

I think Braswell is just a guy NIL can match so the money isn't really the deciding factor even with eliminating the leverage so it's really just whether he wants to play another year of college or not.

I don't necessarily think Braswell is coming back, but I would absolutely take him back. He's not exactly in line for a huge pay day as it currently stands, so leverage this year vs next year isn't a huge deal.

He can guarantee himself another year of baseball in his career and continue the development he showed with the bat, putting himself in a better spot when he does go pro.

But whether Braswell stays or goes, I'm not sure Kilen is the answer. His conference only stats weren't all that good. And, while I admit this could be an anomaly, his stats away from their home park were abysmal. .662 OPS, 0 walks, .254/.266/.397 slash line. His SLG at home (.669) was higher than his OPS on the road.

Overall he has a very low K rate and a miniscule walk rate, which just tells me he's aggressive early.

I'd rather ride it out with Kuch, Milam, Ryan, and Hogg than bring in a guy you have to promise time to that may not actually be an improvement over what's here.

He's not even on Baseball America's top 100 for the 2025 draft.

I agree with your assessment. Still braswell’s hitting numbers were abysmal too. My rule of thumb is if coaches like Jay and Mcdonnell believe in Kilen then I’m on board

ETA: I’m referring to Braswell’s numbers BEFORE he got to LSU, not this past season
