Thank you.
Also, on the roster limit thing, there is a very real possibility that the limit is 35 or potentially even lower for the 2026 season. The word is the new limit, along with full scholarships, will come quickly, but I can't imagine they'd let it get this far down the road with roster building and drop it on programs for the 2025 season. They would frick over a lot of players.

Just a little extra info on what you just said P. Came across this yesterday.

Do we have confirmation that Victorian is coming to LSU? What is the latest with that?
Posted on 7/18/24 at 9:01 am to FredbullTN
There is no info that says he isn't coming to LSU. Still has LSU commit on his instagram. As of now I would expect him to be part of the class until we hear otherwise.
Also, he is playing in the Northwoods league right now which is a league that Jay uses a lot. He is listed as LSU player. So that is a little more that suggests he is part of the class.

who does that benefit?
Not the good teams
not the players.
JUCO?
At a time where more and more kids are making it to college why limit rosters like that.

It will benefit college baseball as a whole and make it extremely competitive in my opinion. JUCO ball will also be extremely competitive sending some of these kids that would be playing D1 to JUCO. It will spread the talent around for sure.
I'm curious to see how it will affect the draft and HS kids decisions to go to college.

I just dont understand how 32-33 is even remotely possible to go that sharply down from 40. Even 35 will be a struggle and screw over a lot of kids. I would guess MiLB, DII/DIII and JUCO will benefit the most from a move like that.
To just snap your fingers even to go from 40 to 35 is pretty detrimental, the coaches have to be lobbying hard against this kind of rash move that fast.
Seems like a step down process would make more sense, ie:
2026 season - 38 players
2027 season - 36 players
2028 season - 34/35 players
Something like that.

quote:I would think so, but then I saw a new LHP pop on the radar last night, Riley Ricken, JUCO CSUSB. Doesn't appear he pitched as a freshman and he isn't lighting the world on fire in summer ball (9K and like 18 walks in 19-20 IP).
We have to be done with the roster now, right?
He is the son of a former MLBer so I assume we are maybe scouting for future years and not current roster.
Edit: obviously I need to catch up to date before responding

They definitely couldn't go from 40 to 35 by the time fall starts.
It would be easier (but not easy by any stretch) to do it over the course of the next offseason. You let the draft do its normal damage and you don't fill as many spots. But it's still not simple.

I just got back from vacation in Mexico.
I happened to meet Barbe’s pitching coach at the resort haha. Small world.
He acted like Landon was going to be at LSU this year but did not say it specifically. Said the kid comes from a bad family situation and needs a fresh start. The coach was hoping he could find that at LSU.

Around that time frame he had hit some arm fatigue. I think that was an issue for him and a reason why he had that stretch of bad outings. Once he worked through the arm fatigue you saw he was back looking himself at the end of the season.
I also think he pitched better at times than his stats indicated. His start against Auburn I think he gave up one hard hit ball in the first innings and was simply burned twice by the shift with a couple of hits that should have been routine ground balls.

You’re right, Chris Stanfield hit a laser to the wall over the CF’s head. Then it was dink and dunk singles.
Posted on 7/18/24 at 9:28 am to TigerCub
It was obvious with arm fatigue though. His command was gone at times and his velo was down. Just had to work through it.

This potential roster crunch is going to be a boon to JUCOs.
We should have installed a coach at BRCC in anticipation of this. It's kind of weird that they've had a program for nearly 2 decades and LSU has never recruited a player from there.
Not weird for LSU, weird for BRCC.

LSU-Eunice is about to be even more stacked.
Posted on 7/18/24 at 10:10 am to Jim Hopper
For sure. It won't just be JUCOs though. It will have a huge trickle affect down baseball. The midweeks against in state teams will be more competitive also because of kids that could have played at LSU or other SEC type schools will now just stack those rosters a little more.
On the flip side, with the portal it will just be that much harder for those types of teams to keep their top players because of the transfer portal. Overall the mid major teams will also have a roster that is more deep than the ones they have now.

The roster limit spreading players around could give some incentive to some schools to start up programs.
SMU seems like a no-brainer now that they're in the ACC. They'll already be in a power conference, will have a great recruiting base, and are in a prime area for a strong non-conference schedule. I feel like they'd be able to buy their way to prominence similar to when Oregon restarted their program.
Out west, they need more programs to help balance out the number of teams around the country. Utah State, Southern Utah, and Weber State, along with Colorado, Colorado State, Boise State, and Northern Arizona. That would really help with schedules out there and there are the players to support it (except maybe for the Colorado schools).

I would assume that any kid that is a roster crunch casualty in the fall would get a waiver to play in the spring, provided someone has a spot.

Everett Denny has committed to Delgado. He was a late pop up kid from Jesuit we were evaluating. I assume we will continue to monitor him at Delgado.
