Still can’t believe we got Schmidt. You never know how things turn out, but it seems like this guy is a sure fire future MLB player. Going to be fun to watch for 3 years.

It also makes me so happy to see Vanderbilts classes so average now
Jay casually got 4 of the top 7 HS recruits out of Texas.

No scholarship cheat combined with an old HC who is getting far beyond his prime. Makes for a nice laugh towards their 6 1/2 fans

Update on Chase Shores from Jay:
Rehab going great, he is lifting every day and arms are getting big.
If we would have made the supers in 2024, he would have been on the roster.

Is Cooper Williams expected to contribute this upcoming season?

Considering how few LHP we have I'm certain he'll be pitching some in a relief role, how much is determined by how effective he is for how long though obviously.
I wouldnt consider him a potential starter or anything though, we kind of got that covered from a number of other guys.
He does have starting potential long term though, especially looking at 2025-2026. He has the pitch mix to do so.
Kade Anderson it really looked like might settle into the Sunday role early on this past season when he was carving up early season OOC opponents and some mid-week opponents but he was pretty awful against SEC teams until the SECT he finally had a few good appearances then. You just never really know.

During the SEC Tournament he was throwing a bullpen session and one of the local reporters talked to him. Basically said that if the team made it far in the postseason he could have potentially pitched.

We have to be done with the roster now, right?
We still have to replace the Ops Director role since Brent Haring left for Nicholls. That role wasn't filled until August of last year.
We also need a new S&C coordinator, but I believe that is supposed to be done by the end of this month.

With Jay I never put it past him to still find someone, in the end numbers work themselves out between injury redshirts, other redshirts, December portal and asking a JUCO guy or two to stay there another year.
We're at 44/40 right now which seems not bad at all, I feel like we were even more over the limit at this point post-draft last year unless I remember incorrectly.

I would think so. I can't see where we would fit anyone else.

We were. We were at 44 or 45 going into the spring.
ETA: I just don't think we have the same kind of redshirt candidates we did last year, barring injury.

Being left handed, for people who buy religiously into the matchups thing, could certainly put him in line to contribute, at least situationally.
One thing that I've read about him really stands out to me, though. An excerpt from Perfect Game on the BengalTiger said this about him:
“Young bodied southpaw with tons of projection. Up to 93 mpg at PG national with a big slider and change up. Starter profile.”
Big slider and changeup sounds really nice, but it's the incredible gas mileage this dude gets that really impresses me. I've got to meet him and pick his brain.

That type of mileage makes a Prius jealous

This is my thought on it also. Any guys still needing some development already used a RS. The high school class is so strong that none of them are truly candidates to redshirt.

Around that time frame he had hit some arm fatigue. I think that was an issue for him and a reason why he had that stretch of bad outings. Once he worked through the arm fatigue you saw he was back looking himself at the end of the season.

Invariably some positions are so stacked though some incoming freshman or JUCO player will have to be convinced it's better to take the redshirt year then try again in 2026.
Seems like we have anywhere between 1-3 injury redshirts every year, even if you assume just 1 there, tell 1 JUCO guy to stay there for their sophomore year, you're already down to 42 now only needing 2 guys to either hit the December portal or take a voluntary redshirt which seems pretty easy. Potentially 1 pitcher and 1 position player maybe there.
Going to a 40 roster limit is great in terms of not having to turn as many guys away on the older 35 man roster but it also makes some positions way too overcrowded too where some guys just are never going to play in a particular season.
I know the tune is if you voluntarily redshirt here you're basically just portal fodder for the future and those players will rarely work themselves into the lineup or high leverage pitching here but at least that redshirt preserves a year of playing for them whether thats staying here or heading elsewhere....a year they dont come in for like 5 AB all season long or pitch 1.2 IP all year or something and burn a year.

For anyone that may still be under the free trial, or have the monthly subscription, to 64 Analytics: Can you look up Riley Ricken at Cal St San Bernardino to see if he's in the portal? He's the older brother of 2025 commit Reagan Ricken, he's a low 90s lefty that redshirted in D2 this past season.
