Who are all the proven portal players? Because many people thought that of Mac Bingham, Justin Loer, Kade Woods, Jack Merrifield.
Fair point, but personally I never liked the idea Mac. I think I trust stats from smaller conferences more than the PAC.

I think a lot of SEC teams have shown that the smaller school bats can translate.

'When the portal season is over, make a list of portal losses and portal and JUCO additions and ask yourself what group you would rather roll into 2025 with.

Jay has made it clear he loves the development piece to coaching. Unfortunately, many kids and their parents don't seem to have the patience for that these days. I think this off-season has created a little bitterness in Jay honestly.
I think more than ever now, he is adjusting his approach to focus LSU's resources a little more on impact guys and a little less on developmental guys. He basically admitted the breadth of his team was too deep last year...if that makes sense. I knew what he meant when he said that.

That's what I can't wait to see Wild. At this point, I can't answer if LSU will be better next year or worse.

CJJ knows exactly how to attack this. The portal will be necessary this year to keep us competitive in 2025. He got 3 true freshmen meaningful playing time last year. That’s more than any other team in the league. It’s also no coincidence they are not in the portal.
This year if he has to, he can squeeze 1-2 more freshmen into full time roles, and then take the Tennessee strategy and take 2 more freshmen and get them DH opportunities with a path to starting roles going forward in 2026.
Imagine 2026 with 3 stud juniors (Brown, Milam, and Larson) with 2-4 sophomores hopefully taking the next step. Add in a few more freshmen getting sec experience at the plate and you might have room for a couple portal guys.
LSU got a head start on how to play this new game. Oh and as a bonus we have a really good opportunity to make a run next year as well.
Lester has basically said it without saying it. There really is not much use anymore with the redshirt guys. If you can’t come in and compete at 18 and earn a spot then this might not be the place for you. SEC experience is absolutely crucial

It's a nightmare for Jay but that is why he is paid the big bucks.
I said this two years ago and received a lot of downvotes but it is about going after the high impact guys in HS, portal and JUCO and not so much about developmental guys anymore. I'm still okay with high ceiling developmental types like Moffet but the rest can go develop somewhere else.

I won’t be able to do that because I didn’t watch many Wofford, Mount St Mary’s, or JUCO games. Do I think some of the guys transferring out could have played at those schools? Probably.
I’m asking you who the proven transfer players that we have gotten this offseason are.

Another part to it I think there is something to taking a ton of guys from a pure numbers standpoint that enough will workout. At least this go around where you have to.
LSU didn't take as many bats in the portal this past season. You likely just need a couple or so to really hit.
It becomes a numbers game to me. LSU was really relying on Braswell and Mac. Maybe they still find a stud out of the portal, but at least from a numbers standpoint they should be way more flexible with more options for someone or two to really hit. The good thing is Braswell did come around and he became one of your best hitters.

most of the portal adds have been "oh shite, we have no Jr or Sr's on this team, we need somebody" type of adds.
Not no-brainer studs that LSU has had great success with.
For 2 decades LSU fielded teams with great SS and great C, and yet they can't lock those positions down to save their life. Now we are celebrating guys coming in from lesser schools that can't even really play a position in the field other than 1B. Just kind of crazy when you think about it.
Like Im not sure who you think they've added yet that moves the needle. They have a ton of work to do and the prospects arent very hot

quote:I re-listened to that press conference today. In that same response he said he had a blueprint for how 2025 looked in his head and that included playing about 12-13 position guys and 9-11 pitchers and the rest of the roster should have at least one thing you do really well and be completely bought in.

With that said, I find it kind of interesting that Frey hasn’t entered the portal. Was hoping he would stay but I’m wondering where he fits in the grand scheme of things.
Posted on 7/2/24 at 8:26 pm to WJP23
I havent re-listened to it, but hearing it live, i got the impression he definitely thought some guys this year werent bought in, and he’ll make that more of a priority with this roster. Hope thats the case, gonna take some work with how many new pieces they will have

We are gonna have to wait until after the draft and signing deadline pass to see exactly how the team will be composed as that still has a ripple effect on the transfer market.

Probably a louisiana kid that is bought in, ill be rooting for him

You and I have been at odds, but I have to agree with your assessment.

I think Frey would have gotten more chances this year had he not hurt his shoulder.

Hell, after his freshmen year, i thought he had potential to be a superstar, just hasnt clicked yet, hopefully he starts to shine

New C on the radar
Kaleb Burns, C, Ripon, JR, #1312
.179/.327/.268/.595, 1HR, 14BB, 30K, 9SB
Nothing to see here
Edit: Accidentally used his 2023 stats. 2024 was better with the bat
.281/.409./.445/.854, 3HR, 16BB, 20K, 9SB
(including post-season play)

Stanfield, Hayden, Hernandez, Cowan are all more proven than they guys we lost.
We are not done in the portal either.

Sometimes I think the coaches follow a kid to see how much you are paying attention and trying to see if you miss one.
