I mean I guess he's keeping his options open just in case.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense imo. I know he's more than likely going to go pro regardless, but everything I've gathered is Jay loves Thatcher.

Just a weird thing to do, but always thankful for what he did in the 2023 postseason.

Probably sees the writing on the wall. If he doesn't get the offer he wants in the draft, he likely won't have a starting spot available in 2025.

We've been building the roster without him in mind for a month now.

That means roster spots, projected innings, and NIL dollars.

Jay and LSU need to know how many roster spots and how much scholarship money they have to work with for next year.
Hurd will likely be drafted, and he wants to sign. Because of that, LSU has to proceed as if he will not be on next year’s roster - they can’t save a spot for him.
Today is the last day to enter the portal, so Hurd is covering his arse in case the unlikely scenario happens and he doesn’t get drafted, he will have a roster spot on a college team.

Jay needs to get away from having to cut players or asking multiple players to redshirt when it's not injury related

That’s just how rosters have always worked. I don’t understand this at all.

Not every player that leaves is cut anyway. Jay said he thought multiple guys were coming back that made different decisions.

Life is tough. Play well and work hard or go elsewhere.

Cody Schrier enter the portal yesterday. Highly rated portal SS from UCLA. Seems like we’ve had great success with UCLA transfers.

.242 batting avg as a Junior in the PAC? I know Braswell is a good example of improving under Jay, but at least that was in the SEC. And still wasn't that bad. Is this a depth consideration, because I would probably rather some of the other guys committed to LSU already get a shot over him. Perhaps someone will tell me why I am wrong or that he had some sort of injury.

I don’t think he is cutting many, if at all.

Redshirting is stupid an almost assures you won’t play your 1st two years at a place like lsu. Which is why most redshirts have transferred

Tre Morgan and Dylan Crews made the Futures Game.

Along with Robby Snelling, Brock Selvidge, Ben Kudrna, and Justin Crawford.

Yes, tonight at midnight. With the exception of teams with a coaching change have 30 days from that point.

Yeah, just interesting that he would enter.

Just keeping all options open in case for whatever reason things fall through with the draft. He has do not contact tag so tells me he either already had another place in mind or literally just did this (today is last day to enter for our players) to have as backup option and doesnt want to be bothered by other teams right now. His focus for now is 100% draft. I'm sure Jay and company have moved on from factoring him into next year at all and he's aware of that.

If he came back he would have zero leverage for next year and have to sign for peanuts compared to what he'll get this year.

Yeah I dont get this guys high ranking (#24 overall), he's been worse every year in college and doesnt field at a premium rate seems like.

Their formula relies too heavily on usage.

But this tweet was posted on June 11, 2024. So even if he verbally committed last year, he re-upped his commitment on Twitter recently. He knew about Grahovac then. Just a weird situation.
