Who do you see in the Hammond area in 2023? I think the last two have been better than this one upcoming but I may be missing someone.

Follow Nationals and Elite Squad.
Not any high D1 talent, but tons of kids going to play at the next level. Non P5 D1, Juco, D2, D3….
Payton Puffer
Josh Fleming
Austin Ackel
Eli Woodard
to name a few

I've mentioned Ackel on here before. I like him as a pitching prospect. Seems like he may lean toward playing football in college, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get more baseball interest with a strong senior year. He's a big, put together kid.

I'm so over all the football discussion. Is it February yet?

I think we'll get some scrimmage action in early October. That's not too far off.

Starting to look around JUCO websites to see if rosters and fall schedules are updated.
It looks like LSUE is coming to the Box at the end of September for a tournament. Whether they're playing a fall scrimmage against LSU or not, this is cool and something I've been wanting us to do. Hosting a few JUCOs on campus allows for more evaluation opportunities.

If he's not in the class referenced in the title of the thread, don't ask this question.

Baseball America ranked the top 100 impact transfer portal guys. LSU had 1 (White), 2 (Skenes), 5 (Hurd), 15 (Little), and 96 (Nippolt).
We were also in on 4 (Ahuna), 6 (Keaschall), 7 (Jauron Watts-Brown), 9 (Kade Morris), among others.
The SEC is very well represented on this list. An underrated signing, IMO, is (56) Kendall Ewell going from Eastern Kentucky to Kentucky. This is the second year in a row Kentucky has grabbed the best player off EKU's roster.

Got a little pipeline going there. I wouldn't be mad to see Jay establish some relationships with in-state coaches to do the same. It's win-win. The lesser team (your BRCC or Delgado or even a Nicholls) could recruit kids (or be handed fringe guys by Jay) with the possibility of riding that pipeline, and obviously Jay could get a closer look at their development.

Mingeone has pretty much said he's de-emphasizing high school recruiting and focusing more on the portal going forward.
I don't think that's a winning play long term. What you described could be. I don't think there is ever a reason to turn off a player procurement avenue. HS, JUCO, portal all should always be in play.

Right. I think the days of getting these huge waves of impact transfers has reached its peak or will soon. That's not to say that it will go completely obsolete. Certainly a few exceptions, but the bulk of your 2022 CWS field were homegrown (so to speak) rosters. A&M is the huge outlier, but you'll probably have more rosters built like that next year and maybe another year or 2. Then, I think it gets back to less volatility. The programs that come out ahead on the other side ahead are the ones that continued to treat the recruiting and development pieces like gold.
ETA: And, I think Jay completely understands that. He's re-building right now, anyway anyhow, but he's also laying groundwork for sustained success in a less volatile atmosphere.

And adding by far the top class in the nation. Feels good.
