I get the feeling we're about to see the resurgence of the ace starting pitcher at LSU.

If you being enough in, you'll have hits.

I thought Jay may have another transfer or 22 guy come in, but I'm getting the feeling that he is done with the roster. I guess he could look at a grad transfer after the fall - not sure the rules on that or even for a juco guy to be immediately eligible for the spring.

Girard Playground in Jefferson Parish won the 11/12 Dixie Youth World Series today. Team had some absolute dudes on it. I'm sure we'll be hearing/seeing some of those kids' names in the next 12-18 months.

Maybe, hard to tell in Dixie, not many teams playing it still and not many coming back from travel. Do you know what travel team the play for? If it's renegades or Carrollton boosters elite than yea prolly.

Not sure, but I do know that alot of the Girard and Lakeshore kids play for Renegades. And that goes for all age groups, just not entirely certain about this particular Girard team (but Delatte is the main guy, so I'd assume so).

Are the renegades the same renegade orginization from like 2006 with the blue jerseys? I'm sure I still have my jersey from our trip to disney somewhere

Is this the same as what used to be the NORD team? The teams (at least when I was that age 10-15 years ago) were usually super top heavy with some fillers from Country Day/Newman. Granted the coaching staff was entirely made up of Country Day and Newman Dads so that was expected

I know the playground system was going down hill in JP but delatte is one guy that will never field a bad all star team, and he pulls from everywhere he can.

Not sure if same organization from that far back. Definitely blue. They've been growing and growing. They have 3-4 teams in some age groups (black, blue, white, grey).

Not familiar with the Carrollton Boosters of today's travel ball, but very likely same org.

The playground system is still struggling, outside of Girard (gets Kenner kids) and Lakeshore (gets NORD kids). Some playgrounds have to combine just to have enough for a league. Some playgrounds like Girard and Lakeshore sometimes have enough for 2 leagues. Then you have some in the middle that get 3-4 teams or so for a league, talent levels from 0 combined with advanced players.

Got it. I'm sure same general people running the renegades. Derek was involved back then too.

I know Carrollton doesn't go to cooperstown anymore, which is a bummer, because that was one of the funnest baseball experiences of my life.

Yeah, my age group about 15 years ago was when playground ball started to die out. the competition in rec ball was so bad, we started playing travel ball before it was today's "travel ball." We took 3-4 of the best players from 3 or 4 parks and had a pretty decent team (State runner-up in AAA, which was the most competetive division considering majors had 2 teams who were literally filled with future professional athletes - Thibideaux Terror being one who I would argue is the greatest collection of 12 year olds on one baseball team ever ). It was rare that there were travel teams at tournamnets in 2005ish who were just flat out terrible. Not the case today.

We didn't play at the parks for 11-12s because of the aformentioned competition. It was a waste of time if you were trying to get better. The last time I participated in JPRD athletics was when I was 13, just because if you made the JPRD team you went to a pretty competitive "world-series" and it was pretty much just one term per playground in a league. Harahan and Little Farms had to combine to make a team, same with Cleary and Delta. It was sad to see.

shite I drive by Harahan playground every now and then and both baseball fields are destroyed. They were used as a dumping ground after Ida and I guess it wasn't wroth it to fix the fields.

John Curtis renovated the field at Harahan a few years ago, and uses it as their home field. It’s one of the nicer fields in the area.

Doesn't look like they're playing there this spring, unless they do a LOT to the field.

They used Harahan around 2007-2011, then renovated the field at Miley, then back to Harahan. But it's still extremely overgrown and with what they had sitting on it for months, probably need to replace the entire field.

ETA: it looks like they only played at Harahan in 2021 while Miley was undergoing renovations.

They practice there everyday during the season. It’s re-sodded and everything. Maybe they don’t play home games there anymore but it’s nice in-season

In 2022? There was still debris on the field in 2022.

JC baseball tweet

This was the field during the 2021 season. It was a nice field at one point, but I'm telling you from experience, once miley got that stadium about 10 years ago, Curtis stopped upkeeping Harahan like they used to.

That field has been a disaster since Ida. Nobody is doing anything, practicing or playing, until Harahan gets money to re-do the fields and fix the gym. They have a light pole in the field of play in LF. They really shouldn't be playing high school games on that field, even when it was "fixed up". Curtis insisted, because it was a home field advantage for them.

Exactly.

Even as a kid when Curtis was playing there full time and really keeping up with it, I didn't like practicing or playing on that field.

BM's field is nicer than Harahan has ever been, and BM still uses Rooney as their home field for varsity.

Curtis shared Miley with Rummel as their home field this season.
