LSU gonna need some pitching from portal especially with shores likely missing time next season
Hurd was gonna be the ace next year

Maybe he committed to Tulane because of no offer yet from LSU.

Has anything been confirmed with Shores?

Wrong thread but no. Nothing has been confirmed. Naptime did what he always does…makes cryptic statements with no substance and never backs it up so everyone panics.

If people wanna play the look at me I know something card then say what you know or shut up.

What we know is Shores is being evaluated and he was seen with s compression sleeve on the other day. Nothing more at this time.

The outlook for next year is definitely changing. At this point, I assume anyone getting TJ in season will be out 2 years. Coleman still hasn’t pitched and I think he got his June/July 2021. That would basically make Taylor, Noot and Possibly Shores unavailable next year. Then Hurd looking nothing like the ace he was supposed to be takes out another option. There really aren’t any safe bets in the rotation next year.

Guys can’t enter the portal yet, but the first place to go shopping is where there is a coaching change.

Unfortunately if there is a coaching change this early, you’re not really going to find the kind of help you need.

There are still some JUCO options out there, but I don’t know if they’re front line rotation candidates. I figured we’d be portal shopping for pitchers anyway, but the need has definitely increased.

The fact that people have completely written off Hurd making meaningful contributions next year is completely absurd.

I’m not writing him off, though I don’t think you were accusing me, but even with him we still would really only have two weekend rotation candidates currently on the roster (Herring), and another couple on the freshman class (the two Louisiana LHPs). We went into this past fall with 6 weekend rotation candidates and look where we are now.

ETA: add Coleman to that mix. And we’d have 4 of our weekend rotation candidates as lefties. Not necessarily the worst thing, just funny given recent history. And I’m assuming Cam Johnson doesn’t make it here.

With the lack of arms available next year due to injury it should be pretty easy to convince the best arms from the portal to come compete for a starting job. That is unless they get spooked from the amount of arm injuries we’ve had.

Are they going to give up baseball?

Skenes shooting up to 1/2 will be encouraging.

Tennessee is really the only program not dealing with a bunch of arm injuries right now, and they won’t have the type innings available that we can offer.

I think we'd have to also hope to get Floyd back. Hard sell him on another year under Wes to blow him up the draft ranks. If Hurd doesn't get it together soon, Floyd may be the ace unless we hit on a big portal target. I don't think Jay will shy away from going after a true ace, regardless, but still toss the idea hard to Floyd. Ideally, you get Hurd on an upward trajectory, Floyd stays, and you hit on another electric starter in the portal. I'm not altogether worried about pitching with Wes in the boat. Numbers maybe a thing, but we'll be well prepared and should be well equipped with Jay working the numbers.

That’s not an LSU issue

The word around Lake Charles is one of the 2023 signees is no longer going to LSU but may be going JUCO. Any truth to that?

I don’t have any inside info, but if we’re on the lookout for more infielders that seems plausible. I don’t understand it, but I don’t make the decisions.

You may be thinking of JC Vanek of Barbe. He was committed for a couple of years but decided on Juco. Not sure if it was solely his decision. He committed to Maineri and Jay Johnson didn’t value him like PM did.

JC is going to Chipola because he didn’t have a great junior year and there were some other issues. He wouldn’t be able to help LSU. He is having a great senior year though…..he is going to be fine!

This is much more recent.

Think I know who you are referring to but I don’t think it’s really all that recent. Rumored that grades had been a problem for a while.

Juco lefty on the radar, Briant Bazydlo from County College of Morris in New Jersey. Sits 88-91, up to 93. Don’t know much about him.

Coleman's surgery was April 2022. He has been throwing bullpens and the rumors I am hearing is if all continues to go well he will be back on the mound in 2-3 weeks.

Everyone heals differently, but it seems the knowledge and advancements in technology is making the rehab process go a little quicker with TJ now. Similar to how the ACL rehab process has been getting better and better. If Shores ends up getting the surgery, it would put him around the same time as Coleman got his last season. I think Taylor and Noot will both be available maybe midway through next season. I wouldn't expect plenty innings from them but could be valuable in some relief appearances.
