I think the Marshalls league is done, here are the final numbers for the incoming freshmen up there. Same format as last time with the line drive, fly ball, and ground ball percentages at the end for each. We discussed Mitchell already but Roellig was good over the last few weeks as well.

Montgomery was 0-2 with a K vs. Gage Jump in 2022
Light work. Not worried.

Still nothing official on Montgomery to A&M?

Nothing yet. I'm sure Kendall can't wait to announce it if it happens

Maybe Apple TV is trying to come up with a financial package for Stanford to keep him.

Aside from Mitchell striking out almost 36% of the time, he had a great summer at the plate.
Nice slash line.

It’s more like 30%, but to his credit most of it was early and he adjusted. In the first update on 7/9 he had 6 walks and 24 Ks. Then had 11 walks to 9 Ks over the last few weeks of the season.

Thats some pretty promising power for a middle infielder, but probably 3b if I had to guess here?

He played third this year in HS bc the SS was a top commit to UCLA. I think he can play anywhere in the INF to be honest.

Got some high expectations for Derrick Mitchell.

Jay thinks a bunch of kids could play SS, Kucherak being one of them. But Roellig seems like his guy if i had to pick one.

We get caught up in the rankings and rightfully so but Mitchell and Kucherak are two of my early favorites. Most people would prefer Milan and Larson but we will see.

All four infielders are versatile and could play all infield positions including SS. If you just look at their tools however, I actually think Thompson is most suited for SS, Milan and Roelig 2B and Kucherak 3B.

Thompson has a 3B profile to me.
Roellig had tommy john his JR year and didn't play the field, then played 2B his SR year to work his arm back. He has been lauded for his actions at SS so I think if his arm heals correctly he is the SS. Jay doesn't shut up about the California SS pipeline and this is just another one of those guys. Was committed to Jay at AZ and followed him to LSU. It's his guy.

Does Seo have the bat to stick at 2B or he is just a pitching prospect now?
would be nice to flip his brother from Vandy.. he is a year younger iirc

Jay mentioned we were lucky to get Milan. Then he mentions Roelig and Kucherak as "also good prospects". I haven't heard him mention Thompson yet. Read into that what you will.
Both Thompson and Roelig lack ideal speed and probably range. Thompson probably is better suited at 3B but I'm not sure SS is Roelig best position with the lack of speed. Milan doesn't have the strong arm, is the only reason I think 2B is better for him. Lape actually has decent speed and a big arm, but he doesn't get mentioned at SS.
I actually think it will be Braswell at SS and Guidry at 2B, with Milan backing 2B. The only reason I am high on Kucherak is the bat. Milan has a leg lift if I remember correctly and Jay will turn that into a toe tap probably. That might slow his hitting progress some. They all have gloves, it might be a matter of who hits the best.

Damn Wild...you been doing some research on these newcomers.

If I'm not mistaken we only lost catcher Mitchell out of the entire class that is amazing!

It’s not all about speed, more so short area quickness & instincts.
But SS is like QB in football, the best player plays there in high school but most of them cannot make that transition to the next level. Like QB, most SS’s are bred through long hours of work & dedication to the craft.
Jay will look to the guy that can consistently make the plays. It’s unlikely that is a freshman in 2024 anyway but I guess we will see. That’s an extremely hard ask of most freshmen players. Hopefully Braswell & Guidry can hold it over for a year or 2.

I love recruiting. I lost my passion for football recruiting a few years back. Too many flips and trolling by the players themselves. Flipping on the last day when a money bag comes out. I'm over it.
I'm all about the baseball now. Too bad there is so little information out there. I'm really appreciative of project for this thread and all those that contribute. I can't wait for the Fall, so we can start getting eyeballs on these new guys. See you then.
