Hill wouldn't really be a rental. Jay has to think about how Milam and Guidry (and the '24 kids) would look at it. I believe he should look more at a rental, like Kasten Furr. But, as a fan, I want the best guy...so if that's Hill, then let's go.

As a fan, I want to be a good program to be in the mix year in and year out. I think that is where the beginning of your comment holds a lot of weight.

State 247 board melting over Montgomery following Burns to Wake rumors.

Montgomery has no reason to go there (he doesn't really have a reason to leave Stanford to be honest).

But I love seeing State fans melting.

We don’t have a single proven above average hitter on the roster at MIF. Should be a no brainer

My thoughts as well.

This is where the portal stuff starts getting interesting with a baseball roster. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think many college players are ok with being on the 2 deep like you see with DL,RB,WR, etc.

I like the idea of getting as few portal guys as possible outside of 2-3 elite guys every year but it seems hill is a proven guy who would immediately make our MIF better.
Jay hasn’t made a bad decision yet so I trust whatever he ends up doing.

Would be a hell of a rumor swing to go in the portal to get closer to home and just go from the west coast all the way across country to the east coast. I'm good with Stanford or Wake if the decision isn't LSU.

I would be way less concerned if Braswell was a .320 guy with a little pop. I’m big on guys developing and I think Milam will be good but I don’t like the idea of hoping these guys show out as freshman. I get it’s a tough line to walk though.

ough situation. Can't always go running to the portal. Hard to make a case for guys to come to campus if you have a track record of filling positions with a ton of portal guys. Not a good strategy for the long haul in my opinion of building a program.

Agree to a point. I just wish we had paused on Braswell then. I like him but if we were only taking 1 transfer up the middle I would’ve preferred it to be a guy who can hit (like Hill) and if Guidry had been developing at shortstop all season behind Thompson I wouldn’t hate it either but really you now have 1 guy who can play above average defense in Braswell with a below average hit tool and then a non existent bat and average defense in Nippolt + a bunch of freshman and I’ll include Guidry in that becuase he probably stopped swinging a bat in March.

This feels like “filling a need” in the portal but I do understand that winning a title probably makes him more inclined to spend a year developing these guys.

A lot of good points. It's probably mostly a timing issue with it being a last minute portal entry when you already took Braswell and you also got Milam to campus who was a 50/50 guy going into the draft. Maybe even less chances to get to campus than the 50/50 going in.

I hope some of these younger guys stay, but having extra guys to battle it out is good for the team. I think us having the perception of developing talent at a high level right now helps convince some of these kids to wait their turn or build up a season here then if it doesn't work out move on next season.

I feel like this is one of the main factors at play.

This is neither here nor there, but I just found Tripp Haddad on Spring Hill's roster. He transferred there after last year. He only had one at bat on the season.

He knew 23 team could be special if he went all in on portal

24 is gonna be a reloading year but it would be foolish for Jay to recruit over current players and recruits

‘24 might be a rebuilt but Jay has us in prime position to contend for another CWS appearance. Especially, if we land Holman.

They've had some success in DII. They get a good draw from Louisiana.

Yeah, they pull from the Catholic League in NOLA a good bit and they have a nice pipeline from St Louis too.
