I've said it multiple times on Kling but it was all gut feeling on things he has said and the trends of his draft stock. Seeing that makes me feel even better with that gut feeling. I've said it before but I believe he will take the RF spot if he makes it to campus. If not to start the season, he will by SEC play.

Kling is a DES, huh pro?

I believe so. Him, Jones, and Guidry I think.

Portal name to watch: Mac Guscette, catcher, Florida
If he could get that average up closer to his freshman year or even .275 seems like a guy you could roll with considering power numbers, fielding %, and throwing 35% of base stealers out.

My thought is that the twitter action with any USM pitchers would be their prep for Ostrander leaving and them entering the portal. I don't think they'd leave if Ostrander stays. So, look at their twitter action as more of potential handwriting on the wall for Ostrander than them currently being unhappy. And, I don't think getting Ostrander here would make them a 100% leave to come here or anywhere.

Guscette was underwhelming for the majority of his time. But, you could see the potential there. He'd definitely bring a juicier bat than Milazzo, with experience and serviceable defense. I see his bat alot like Travinski with far less swing and miss, and better defense. Having less swing and miss is something I'm sure Jay can work with better.

I thought this quote from Johnson was interesting.
I can see things changing in a big way. When you are a program like LSU you can build your roster every year mostly from the portal. No need to sign program players from HS anymore. Sign the cream of the crop and see how many you can get to campus. Everything else can be filled in the portal.
Portal will become more valuable than HS players. They are evaluated better, experienced, more developed, more mature and you don't have to recruit them for 5 years. NIL and portal are the future, time to embrace it.

It kind of gives you a thought that maybe you wanna build your team one year at a time which is not the way I believed in it. But right now it’s a talent grab

That’s exactly the approach. Sign as many top flight players as you can and if you lose 10 so what. You can go into the portal and find them instead of backfilling those losses with guys that don’t belong on SEC rosters or juco

Don’t think for a second that Moscona doesn’t have legit sources
Kendall Rogers, Matthew Musso, and Ryan Theriot, might get you into the right time zone, but they ain’t gettin’ you the correct zip code.

Yeah id think kendall is moscona’s source

Forget having a recruiting coordinator flying all over the country, trying to project 8th graders. We need a NIL/Portal coordinator. Pillage stud players from smaller schools with NIL money, Viking style.

Lol the model really sucks for mid majors and non power programs

Moscona's source may be Rogers but Rogers is also a pawn and tries to sway things himself. Moscona also gets info from Theriot and his circle...not exactly in complete sync with the Jay era yet.

I don’t trust former LSU infielders

I was so dumbfounded by kids being offered in 7th and 8th grade that I've made it a point to envision that kind of thing when watching baseball games as young as 7 yrs old.
I can see it now. You really can project well if you just watch enough of it.
My prime example right now: Jude Voltz has a son that's 12 yrs old. Bats left, throws right. Big kid but just spend some time watching him and he's definitely 12. Does he destroy his comp? Not really. But, you can see all the things. They're there.

That’s the best thing about the transfer portal, in my opinion. It should curb that practice and hopefully the players themselves will wait to make a decision after seeing portal kombat.
ETA: I think it’s ridiculous to see kids commit to a school as freshmen or sophomores in HS, have an “association” with that school for several years then transfer out after a semester or two.

I think it's well documented that I hated that practice, as far as projecting that far out. I thought it was dumb, given the fact that kids mature and develop differently, etc. But, it's grown on me some. Now, I do think it requires a great deal of homework and engagement. In other words, I can project Xander Voltz out based on homework but I better make sure he's being developed if I'm extending that early. Darrah is another kid that I really looked at. Nix at Rummel. St Aug has a young kid with a really mature plate approach and swing.
But, I do agree that the portal should slow it down. One year at a time, but don't stop paying attention.
ETA: From the player perspective, you may still see early commits but more de-commits.

I played against a kid who was 6’6 220ish in the 9th grade. Had a high 80s fastball from the right side at that age.
Hit left handed and in his freshman year of 4a north Louisiana highschool ball had a game where went 5-5 with 5 homeruns from the left hand batters box.
From the neck down he was the greatest ball player I’ve ever seen. Never played a single moment college ball at any level. He’s digging ditches on a pipeline last I heard.
That would’ve been ~2005. If he would’ve done that in todays era he would already have an NIL deal wrapped up.
