I think Jared Jones and Jacob Misiorowski are two more that won't see the campus.

They are both showing out at that combine (Toman is as well but he was already a forgone departure), and I think someone will jump and spend on their power and velocity, respectively. Likely not first rounders, but teams that will save some money with their early selections will offer more for their tangibles

If we lose the four Johnson implied, plus those two, I think we'd still be exceedingly happy.

I would anyway!

I agree. Losing 6 out of this loaded class would be a win. Its starting to look like we will lose a little more than that. We will just have to wait. Some portal studs in the meantime will help pass the time.

That’s what’s good about the portal. Johnson can anticipate the holes caused by the draft and fill them if there’s an immediate need at that position.

LINK

Article on MLB.com of 10 players that stood out at combine workout. 3 of the 10 are LSU recruits.

By the looks of these numbers, we can say goodbye to any hope of getting Misiorowski.

Yea to me it’s looking like we are gonna lose half the class at this point.

And if that happens according to some we still have the number one class. I am not sure I believe that but that’s what some scouts are saying.

How can we lose 7-8 big time players and still finish #1? Seems hard to believe.

To put this in perspective LSU’s class last year had 4 top 100 kids and they all signed.

This year LSU has 11 with a few more outside of the top 100. LSU is prepared to lose 5-7 of the top signees.

Other teams will be losing their top recruits to the draft also. It's not that hard to believe. Not saying they will be the #1 class if they lose 7-8 but I would bet they will still be top 5. I haven't really done research on other top teams classes to see how many top recruits each of them have.

Outside of the big draft risk you have some promising pitchers: Moffett, Herring, Bronzini Ackenhausen, Siravo, Bucknam. Keep half of the big guns and its a very good class.

We need to add 3 more stud pitchers to Tebrake and a couple of stud infielders and we will be a very good team.

Expecting 3 more “stud” pitchers from the portal is probably too optimistic. Id be happy with one more stud starter and one stud reliever

Vandy has the number 2 class with 18 signees, compared to our 23. They could lose 5 players to the first round alone and will have to sweat out at least another 4.

I would be surprised if we don't hold onto the number one class.

What we need to keep in mind is the portal can possibly impact your team more than the draft. The portal players are more proven, evaluated, experienced. Winning the portal battle is just as important as the draft battle.

It will be interesting to see what kind of impact the coaching changes will have on the portal. We need to do really well in the portal. Having Johnson at the helm makes me feel good about our chances. An awesome pitching coach would make me feel even better.

Agreed. Herring and Kennedy are the two LSU need to keep and would be the top prospects in any other class.

I'm thinking along the lines of closers as well. I expect to lose Reyzelman and Gervase so we need to replace them as well. Tebrake, Thatcher, Kiesel and finding one more is realistic I think.

I imagine we need to start with a pitching coach first but I think it can happen. Then again, I tend to be a half full kind of guy. I'm pretty good at convincing myself of things. lol.

The new pitching coach may bring someone with him that is completely off the radar too…we’ll see.

I wouldve thought so too, but for the 2nd time now, johnson has said he focuses on getting the players first and coaches after the fact. Maybe he is blwoing smoke, but thats kinda how he handled it last year too

The biggest problem with that right now is pitcher being the biggest needs right now. He can talk to the players all he wants, but they will want to know who they will be working with. So hopefully that don't end up scaring some of the arms that are on the fence into signing pro.
