Out of the box 5th year option (not in the portal and looking forward to going back to his current school per a recent article): Carson Clowers, Delta State.

There is nothing to indicate we are on him, just a name I found trying to research 2018 guys still playing in college.

Right, we need a Hal Hughes.

ETA: I just checked and Hal Hughes didn't make a single error in 82 chances at Rice last season.

I'm not sure Jay will look only at covid seniors to fill infield spots. You have to manage your roster and covid spots a little differently if get someone other than a covid senior, but it may be necessary.

Arizona or any teams in that conference have guys in the portal or have any grad students available for immediate time?

Infield depth is a concern next year as well, so every available player pool should be explored. COVID year guys just offer the ability to not displace anyone else.

I think the best route (from a roster continuity standpoint) to go would be if there is a JUCO FR or portal freshman out there that has flown under the radar.

There is a reason neither play full time on the infield. They are both big & clunky and not good on defense

There was also a reason why Berry and Thompson shouldn't have both been playing on the left side of the infield, but "promises" and roster construction sometimes dictate less than ideal circumstances. You're trading defense for offense.

You said "can't" as if it wasn't possible. But instead, you seem to be telling me what you don't want to see. I don't want those guys on the infield, either. But that's not really relevant when we're trying to fit guys into the lineup. People are trying to pencil Pearson in at second, and that seems worse than having Dugas there.

What's the alternative, if guys have been promised playing time in the field?

Can we call this the roster at this point? 5 guys over the 35-man roster, with Coleman/Siravo getting a likely medical redshirt with their recovery. Wasnt sure about Simon's injury still.

2. RHP Bryce Collins
3. RHP Cale Lansville
4. RHP Grant Fontenot
5. RHP Garrett Edwards
6. RHP Blake Money
7. RHP Samuel Dutton
8. RHP Will Hellmers
9. RHP Grant Taylor
10. RHP Christian Little
11. RHP Thatcher Hurd
12. RHP Chase Shores
13. RHP Aiden Moffett
14. RHP Micah Bucknam
15. RHP Adrian Siravo [Medical Redshirt]
16. RHP Kaleb Applebey
17. RHP Jaden Noot
18. LHP Javen Coleman [Medical redshirt]
19. LHP Riley Cooper
20. LHP Nic Bronzini
21. LHP Griffin Herring
22. LHP DJ Primeaux
23. LHP Nate Ackenhausen
24. OF Brayden Jobert
25. OF Dylan Crews
26. OF Josh Pearson
27. OF Josh Stevenson
28. OF Paxton Kling
29. OF Zeb Ruddell
30. OF Mic Paul
31. INF Gavin Guidry
32. INF Jordan Thompson
33. INF Connor Simon
34. INF Tre Morgan
35. INF Tommy White
41. C Alex Milazzo
42. C Hayden Travinski
43. C Brady Neal
44. C Jared Jones
45. C Ethan Frey

Covid seniors for roster spots 36-40
36. RHP Jason Bollman (covid senior)

I haven't dug into that. Washington State seems like a good candidate to look at. They've taken a crapload of JUCO guys the last couple years to up their talent level and may have someone that fits.

Siravo had TJ surgery on 6/3. So if he gets to LSU at all, he would also be a medical redshirt.

He tried to replace Thompson but no one else could run with it and Berry was both better at 3B than he was the OF and wasn’t the worst option we saw at 3B last season.

Forgot about Siravo's TJ, added him in as medical redshirt - so really 3 guys over the limit there with Simon's injury still in question.

Sometimes it’s better to pay attention to the actions and not what people say. There was a concerted effort to improve the infield defense, and it wasn’t by accepting Tommy whites transfer & Gavin dugas’ return.

It’s not really even about that at this point. Skenes has said he’s not going to play catcher, which means he’s the primary DH. White and Dugas have to find a position to get their bats in the lineup. It’s really as simple as that.

If it's a JUCO guy, they don't have to be in the portal, correct?

And that's my point. It wasn't ideal, what what were we gonna do? Cranford was a better defender than those guys, but he couldn't hit.

With this roster, it seems like there are going to be a lt of bats to try to cram into the lineup, and accomplishing that means that some people might have to play in a less than ideal position.
