I agree, which means Morgan moves to the OF and Pearson likely moves to 2B unless you leave Kling out the lineup which I can't see happening.

Pearson isn’t a good infielder either

I'd prefer Dugas in the infield over Pearson. I really prefer neither of them in there.

I'm not saying he is, but Pearson will be in the lineup. If you move White over to 1B that means Morgan has to play OF.

Can’t say I am not worried about infield defense.

Losing Young was huge, and Pineda too. Jay hitched his wagons to that it seems. Good effort I guess

You would know better than me, but it really seems like Jay promised Dugas a shot at an INF spot to show that he can play it.

Jay said that he had contingency plans in place for the draft, and he hadn't had to use them. I'm sure catcher was one area, and we're safe there now. Maybe he has a few things in mind for the infield.

At this point, I'd be happy for a late game defensive replacement option at SS.

He had specifically mentioned catchers when he talked about contingency plans. I think one of those was drafted and signed by the Astros (John Garcia from Grambling) and another one is still uncommitted and about to start his sophomore year at JUCO.

The only contingency HS infielder I've seen is Ryan Black, but I can't tell if there is any movement on that front. And then Nippolt popped up on Saturday.

Jay Johnson is thinking so far ahead that no news scares me

Nippolt isn't that guy. I'm fine with Nippolt, but I want 1 more infielder to push for time.

12th-rder Luke Adams signs with @Brewers for $282,500 ($157,500 counts vs pool). Illinois HS 3B, 6-4/216, good athlete for size, power projection, strong arm. Michigan State recruit

Don’t see how Noot signs unless he just doesn’t want to be at LSU/desperately wants to start pro career

Can’t play Dugas and White on inf unless White is at 1B

Why not?

I think the assumption, until Jay says otherwise, is that White will be at 3rd. If Dugas plays infield, he would then slot in at 2nd, where he's actually played before if I remember correctly (seems like his freshman year was about 9 years ago), and then SS is up for grabs. I think the only thing that makes your statement true, is if we assume that Thompson is starting somewhere other than SS. I don't think that is any guarantee, and just based on current roster construction, I don't think it's likely. To me, either Thompson wins the starting SS job, or he's out of the lineup. But Dugas also has to be healthy and return to form, or he doesn't necessarily start, either, I wouldn't think.

I think hes gotta find a covid senior for a backup middle infielder at this point losing Pineda and now Carter via MLB. It's a free roster spot and just get someone with a decent glove, who cares about the bat. Just need an emergency replacement if someone like Guidry/Thompson got hurt this year for middle INF.

You have Merrifield as a covid senior but I think he and Nippolt would be last resorts for SS. Nippolt and Merrifield are more 2B/3B guys.

There is a reason neither play full time on the infield. They are both big & clunky and not good on defense

Agreed. Glove first, covid senior as a safety net. Somebody out there has to want to experience Omaha.
