Nippolt played 2B / 3B primarily last year. Mostly 2B.

Is that what you're projection for this VCU guy? Holy hell. I'm thinking more like a utility guy to give us some depth.

He played SS at DMACC. So he had experience there, but it's experience at the 2nd or 3rd best JUCO in Iowa, depending on the year. And his fld% (though not the end-all, be-all) wasn't great.
So, yeah, probably not a true SS option.

One very interesting thing about him is that in every regular or summer season he's played, he's walked more than he's struck out. (except for 2020, where he had 1 of each)

He played SS late in a few games for VCU, but never started there unless I missed it. Went thru all the box scores over the weekend

He definitely has the makeup to contribute somewhere. He can handle the bat that’s for sure.

So he kind of sounds like he profiles as a Chris Reid type of player. Puts the ball in play, draws walks, can move around defensively, but not necessarily great at any position. Good depth, fill in starter.
Anyone see that?

I’m not too torn up about Young. Of all the transfers I was least excited about him. Nippolt has solid numbers.

I had one thing wrong about Nippolt the other day, he wouldn't be a COVID year guy.

In looking up Nippolt it looks like VCU's actual SS committed to Miss St? Sorry if that is super old news. Just caught my attention.
I know JT improved down the stretch, but I am still hoping he doesn't have to play SS. Of course he could improve, but I have my concerns. Originally I wasn't high on Young, but I was starting to really come around to the idea of him at SS. I especially liked that he was a switch hitter. Oh well.
