I know, hence I included your jk. But I thought it was worth noting. Amazing grab out of the port, however...

Hy guys, went to bed early last night, what did I miss?
KIDDING, kidding. Jeez, CJJ is really building this program quickly. Now all we need is for Noot to come to school, and it's a perfect off season.

Enjoyable takes from the college baseball world after Skenes announcement.
All seem to focus on NIL as the reason he chose LSU. No credit given for tradition, facilities or fan support.
The State board is debating whether they can compete anymore. Hate to hear that.
Tennessee board confirmed he didn’t pick LSU for a chance to win a national championship. Obviously he would have picked Tennessee for that.

Let's not sleep on Carter Young. He is high risk, high reward. If he gets it going, he could be huge.

IKR. Here is his quote from the free Kendall Rogers article.
quote:
“I think it was just the best fit for me to develop as a player during my draft year — both as a hitter and pitcher,” Skenes told D1Baseball. “I really clicked with the coaches and I think the culture of the team and the atmosphere at LSU presented the best opportunity for me to enjoy this year as well.
The more I thought about his decision the more I felt these things would be most important to him. I just couldn't imagine him wanting to go to Mississippi St for one year. LSU had to be the most attractive place to be next season regardless of NIL.

The unbolded part of the quote is whats important to me. He will be in the lineup when he isnt pitching.

I think he starts on the mound Sat or Sun on the weekend, DH's against a lefty starter when one comes up and catches 1 (Weekend), maybe 2 games (weekend + midweek) a week. Something to that effect.
Edit - or maybe just pitches on the weekend where a LH starter is slated so he can also DH against them. Lineups will be fun

It'll be interesting to see how his hitting translates to this league (as well as pitching, but I'm more confident in his pitching ability). He was a .400 hitter as a freshman, but fell to .314 last year, which is good, but not necessarily great against the competition he was facing. However, he hit 13 home runs. He doesn't need to be anywhere near .400, but if he could just be a .300 hitter again, and continue to hit for power, PLUS be the kind of pitcher we think he'll be... You're talking about a real national player of the year candidate, along with a couple other of our guys.
That would be really cool to see a legit two-way player at LSU, if it works out.

6'6", 235. 10-3 record and 2.73 ERA over 85 2/3 innings pitched and hit .314 with 13 home runs. 2022 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award.
New rule allows him to pitch and DH, yet continue to DH after he is pulled as pitcher. Two way players benefit, especially finally in the NL. Rule just went into effect this season.

With the rules being the same for both leagues, isn't he a dream prospect in either league? I haven't heard anywhere that he's projected to go #2 overall, but if he has a stellar season on the mound and at the plate, in this league, I'm sure he'd be right up there.

You mean the rule that applies across both leagues but was put in place to accommodate American League pitcher Shohei Ohtani?

I don’t think he will pitch & catch on the same weekend. Arm care no-no especially in his money year
Posted on 7/29/22 at 9:04 am to thunderbird1100
Catching twice a week just seems like unnecessary wear and tear on his body

I can't see it either.
Weekend starter and DH makes more sense.
