you don’t think every coach in America is targeting top portal arms? Is that your position?

You might want to talk to some more people

So Nap are we in a holding pattern? Waiting on Skenes? Is that basically it?

I haven’t heard of anything new going on right now. Not saying something else couldn’t happen though. Still think they are after 1 or 2 more

Wrong

It just seems weird that he didn't get any action during the season. I just figured that it was an injury holding him back and it wasn't academics or him being in Coach Johnson's doghouse. I guess we'll have to see moving forward.

Hopefully he recovers quickly and we eventually see him on the field.

Ah, so jay didnt love what kelly did with the staff. Felt like he said as much after southern miss.

Wonder what irritated him most.

The pitch calling, lack of development, or something else.
I noticed he started taking over the hooking of pitchers from Jason midway through the year

Makes sense. As much as I want to believe we’re a favorite for Skenes, my gut tells me we don’t land him.

About what exactly?

I don’t “talk” to anyone. I have no, zero, inside sources.

If you know something say something.

That tells me Jay doesn’t blame Kelly for their lack of development

Naptime is telling you that your assumption is incorrect.

When Jay Johnson was hired he had a short time to put together a staff and had to work with who was available at that time. Not to mention everything else on his plate. I think Johnson made two pretty good hires under the circumstances.

I'm not saying Johnson was displeased with either coach, but it does stand to reason he felt he could upgrade with more time to hire and Wes Johson seems to be just that. Maybe the situation with Fitzgerald was different or maybe Johnson was looking for an upgrade there as well.

It seems to have worked out for Kelly and LSU, so that's great. Kelly was a very likeable guy and I'm glad he is getting his chance at HC at a place he is familiar with.

I have no doubt Johnson is going to make a great hire for the other position as well. Who wouldn't want to be the recruiting coordinator for LSU baseball? All around win win for everyone.

Project, you mentioned the explosion of this thread. The way baseball recruiting has changed with the draft being pushed back and the addition of the portal, reminds me of old days of football recruiting in the 90's and early 2000's. The regular season would end in late November and LSU (and most other schools) might have 4-5 commits. Every day we would wait to hear news on a new commitment and that would carry our interest until signing day in early February. Of course, there was no social media back then. We had message boards, but sometimes information didn't trickle out until you read the sports page the next day. Yes, I'm old.

Johnson definitely upgraded from Kelly but what I’m trying to say is that Kelly did as good of a job as could be expected by us the fans in a year on the job.

Nap, as much as I love his info, really enjoys his role of dropping insignificant nuggets with no context that this thread goes crazy over and it’s pretty annoying honestly.

Switzerland for the moment. I don't have firm travel plans on Ukraine, but it will probably be soon.

I like waking up at 6:00am here, which is 11:00pm in Louisiana, and reading what you guys post all afternoon. It makes morning reading pretty good.

Kelly was a good guy and a good coach or he wouldn't have been offered the Washington job. I think Johnson probably vouched for him as well. Rumors tend to grow bigger down the line. Naptime could just be relaying what he heard. That doesn't means some personal interjecting couldn't have happened before Naptime got wind of it.

As for people on this thread taking a nugget and going crazy over it, that is to be expected. It's part of the fun.

MLB.com updated their draft list to 250. Haven’t dug into it yet.

Catching up on Skenes…

Do we know if he visited LSU? A&M?

Assuming he’s back on the US team, don’t they roll straight into the summer schedule? When would he have time to go to Arkansas?
