He's still on the roster and will be playing somewhere locally this summer after he recovers fully. I think he will be in the mix to compete or be a #2 guy at one of the INF spots. The last day to enter the portal and be eligible next year is July 1st so we should know soon.

Moscona mentioned yesterday that Jay is scouting pitchers in the Cape.
I know how we feel about Scona’s info, but this tidbit seems a little more credible since he didn’t mention anyone by name.

Every coach is scouting pitchers in the cape

Most in this thread are scouting pitchers in the Cape. Water is also wet.

Yeah that's what I was saying I think Day and the pitcher from Creighton are more of a draft risk than Pineda.

Pineda said it takes a couple of days for your name to hit the portal after you tell the university. I won't feel confident until July 3rd.
BTW Coondaddy said Simon is a good pitcher as well.

Yeah a pretty broad statement really going out on a limb

Hold on a second......Is Random Moscona??

I'm very intrigued by the kid from Nevada, Kade Morris. He's being followed by Tutko and JJ on twitter.
He's had 3 starts in the cape and is 1-0 1.08 ERA in 16.2 IP 9 Ks 6 BBs but looks like after his first start he settled in.
Last two starts were 12.1 IP 2 ER 2 BBs 6 Ks
fastball 93-94 tops at 95-96 with a slider, curveball, and changeup. One worth watching the rest of the summer.

I don't think Pineda will get drafted high enough to sign but I could be wrong. I guess he could be using us as leverage. The other two are more likely to go in the draft.
Yeah, with Pineda, he seems like just a really good college player, with no particularly loud tools to suggest he'd go all that high. Though I wouldn't expect him to fall out of the top 10 rounds, unless he sets a high number that no one wants to match. His defense is really solid, and he's a consistent hitter, but he could potentially raise his profile with a year under Jay's hitting tutelage.
I want to believe Tebrake will be here next year, but that one doesn't seem super likely to me, considering he'd also be a 5th year senior, and he's already accomplished quite a lot. I don't know how much more he could realistically expect to improve on, to the point that it would improve his stock in any meaningful way. I realize it would be a chance to face better competition, but I honestly believe that when it comes to pitchers, scouts are looking more at your stuff, and the ability to locate, than they are about who you face. If you have great stuff, they have a pretty good idea whether or not it's going to play at the next level. It's a lot more complicated trying to judge a hitter against weak competition.
But, maybe Wes Johnson being here gives him motivation to stick with LSU. I don't know. I could be way off, and maybe he really wants to come here and has set a really high price for himself in the draft. I'd sure feel more comfortable if we could land Hurd.

Those stats make him seem like a pitch to contact kind of guy. Maybe some sink on his fastball or something to create ground balls. Control his walks and would be a good pitch count type of guy it seems.

Yeah I totally agree Hurd is the key. I still think Jay gets 1-2 more arms in the portal. Hopefully the pedigree of Wes Johnson helps with Hurd and others. To be honest we will really know nothing until after the draft. I think that's why Jay is loading up on infielders. He doesn't want to be caught having a big hole in the roster after the draft.

The 2 I keep up with most is MLB draft list and Prospect Live.
Where does Tebrake fall on these lists? If not already covered.

His interview with Mahtook didn't leave me feeling super positive. When asked if he had been to Baton Rouge he said no. He'd see how the draft goes and then go from there. And he committed 2 days after getting into the portal. I'm confident in Jay though. I doubt he's counting on it.

D1 updated their portal names this morning, no new LSU guys in it.

So the guy saying Jobert would be there was wrong...or it could be delayed still?

He said he'd put his name in tomorrow (today), which means we could see it anywhere from an update today or not until Thursday.
July 1 is the player deadline, the 48 hour thing means names could trickle as late as the 3rd, I guess.

Drew Bianco will be the bullpen coach for Team USA this summer. His dad is the manager for Team USA this summer (this was decided last year, but what a nice cap off to the season).
This is similar to when Mainieri brought Trent Forshag along to be the bullpen coach when he coached Team USA.

This.
He seems like a good dude, but his interview seemed to tell me he's looking more towards MLB than LSU, and that LSU is just a hedge if he isn't drafted at all, which seems unlikely.

Yeah, and that's quite refreshing. Loading up on as many options as you can is the way to go.
