Project,
Do you have any predictions of the pitchers and position players most likely to make the biggest impressions in fall ball?
Thanks
Sorry I'm seeing this late. I don't have any predictions necessarily, but some things I'm interested in seeing play out.
I wanted to see how Josh Smith was doing. He had two of the 4 or 5 hardest hit balls in yesterday's scrimmage, which IMO says a lot about his health.
I wanted to see how all of the new pitchers do. We've already seen 4, and Landon Marceaux looks like the real deal.
I'd like to see how the catchers do as well. I'll be relying on the guys that actually go to the scrimmages for reports on that. I recommend reading Scuba's daily scrimmage stats thread. He goes and keeps score then posts it on the Rant. Those threads usually have some good discussion in them.

Just some updates on commits moving around to different high schools:
Rece Hinds is now at IMG.
Farmer Abendroth and Ray Torres were at IMG last year, but I can't tell if they're still there this year.
Vince Smith has moved from Charleston, SC to go to school at Calvary Christian in Clearwater, FL. He joins Christian Cairo there in what has to be one of the premier HS middle infields in the country.

As far as I know through friends of his family he is still at IMG. Seems to be a very solid commit with no intention to try out pro ball first, unless grades are an issue which from what I gather could be possible.
He really wants to play at LSU though

Good info, thanks.
Sometimes with the IMG kids, they get updated to reflect they're there. Sometimes they don't. Abendroth is showing on PG at his old HS, that's why I was wondering. Thanks again for clarifying.
IMG has like 4 teams that compete in the spring. One of them is the national team that plays schools from all over the place. That's the team Abendroth was on last year with Torres and former signee Levi Kelly. That should be an indication of his talent level. That team is primarily composed of high level D1/draft guys from all grade levels.
This fall they have one team per grade level from what I could tell on Game Changer.

Now this isn't something I know for an absolute fact I'm getting this info second hand from a family friend. I don't personally know the family.
That being said I do personally trust the info.

I agree the scrimmage posts are informative for the most part, but sometimes they are not correct and can be a little misleading at times. I've witnessed Manieri rule a hit as an out based on his interpretation which causes a kid to lose a hit sometimes and is reflected in the scrimmage stats. They also only play about 4 innings each time thus far, so some hitters are maybe getting only 1 at bat on a particular team while others who bat at the top of the other team may get 3 at bats. To me, its just not a a great comparision at times between players because of these variables. Scuba does a great job with the daily reporting and I enjoy reading about the scrimmages.

Griffin Herring is the name of the new commit. I don't know year, position, or anything else. I won't be able to update the thread until tuesday.

Baseball America released their top 50 High School Draft Prospects for 2019. LINK (may require sub)
On the list were Daniel Espino, Rece Hinds, Maurice Hampton, Jimmy Lewis, Cade Doughty, and Christian Cairo.
UNO commit Antoine Harris made the list as well.
Christian Cairo (son of Miguel Cairo) was joined on the list by other sons of MLBers, Bobby Witt Jt, Glenallen Hill Jr, and Jack Leiter.
Maurice Hampton is joined on the list by Ole Miss two sport recruit Jerrion Ealy.
Former Chicago Bulls 3 point specialist Craig Hodges (who once participated in the 3 point contest as a free agent and wore an NBA jersey) has a son on the list as well, Jason Hodges, an Arkansas commit.

Just FWI, I score the scrimmages using my own judgement. Therefore, it usually doesn't match stats reported by LSUSports.net. I am more likely to rule an error on a questionable play than LSU's scorer, for example. I always record 3 outs as an inning, even though coach extends many innings. If the extension results in runs being scored, I note this with an * and an explanation. Same applies to shortened innings.

Lsu picked up a commit today from Ty Floyd, a 2020 two way player out of georgia.
With the UGA game and UNO game, I don't expect this to be last of the weekend.

Is the exhibition game being played today?

I haven't seen anything to indicate otherwise. Supposed to start in a half hour. I tried to bump my thread from the other day on the Rant with some info about UNO, but apparently it was anchored.

The big prospect tournament in Jupiter was this past weekend. Huge scouting event, pretty much the end of the "Summer Draft Evaluation" period for pro scouts getting a look at the upcoming prep draft class.
One of LSU's lesser talked about commits for 2019 really had a good weekend. Connor Phillips from Magnolia, TX (Magnolia West) was touching 95 this past weekend. He's done that before recently. It's about 4 MPH jump from this time last year.

Looks like Jake Hymel has committed to San Jac. Not sure why he's not in the class any longer, but his velocity had dipped over the summer. Still sucks to lose a legacy player.

After doing a little more research, it doesn't look like we're recruiting him from what I can tell. TCU seems to be a likely destination right now.
Ray committed to TCU yesterday.
We also lost out on Tyler Nesbitt, a recent Florida Gulf Coast decommit. When he opened his recruitment back up, we went after him. But he committed to Florida over the weekend.

Mason Doolittle, who claimed he left LSU to focus on prepping for the draft (and didn't get drafted), has committed to Appalachian State. Exciting times for him.

Prep Baseball Report has just launched a site specific to Florida JUCOs. Admittedly, I spend more time reading about JUCO baseball than any sane person should, so I think this is awesome. LINK
As I was looking at the rosters, I saw former LSU commit Brandon McCabe on the Palm Beach St roster. I knew he committed there when he decommitted from LSU. Turns out he sat out last year after having Tommy John surgery.
Just like Johnny Ray, I don't think we're going to be jumping back into his recruitment, but I do like to keep this thread updated with the whereabouts of former players and commits.
