It's crazy to see past LSU signees Trevor Story, Jake Cave, and Joey Gallo all start out red hot. All three were within a year of each other. Just imagine if LSU had gotten one or two of them.

They've been able to get kids to bypass draft coming out of high school - a lot of premium arms have matriculated to Vandy and most had no business coming to college. Price, Gray, Leiter, Rocker, etc.

Same thing with Florida. Puk, Singer, Kowar, Faedo, Alonso, etc.

LSU has gotten guys like Nola, Gausman and Bregman but not near as many as Vandy and Florida have gotten and that got those teams three titles between them.

I think most of the summer leagues have wrapped up, or will wrap up over the weekend. I'll start compiling what stats I can find for them. A lot of them won't be updated from the last time because they didn't play anymore.

ETA: There are two games currently being played in the SFCBL, where we had a lot of guys this summer. Once those are done, I will be working on putting together stats in context to the league environment. Like OPS+ (without park factors unless I get really adventurous), K and BB rates relative to the league, etc.

Doughty and Beloso were both in the top 5 in the league in batting average. Doughty was 3rd in OPS. Doughty would probably be a candidate for league MVP. There is a kid from Campbell that finished first in Avg, first in OPS, and also pitched 22 innings striking out 27 batters. I think he's the real league MVP.

I pull the stats from the league website and plug them into formulas for the different stats.

I used to have a pretty robust spreadsheet template that allowed me to do all the stats in one place and aggregate them into team stats, but that was saved locally on a laptop that got fried in a thunderstorm.

I'm taking my time building that back up and may never get it all the way back to what it was.

So now I just do random one off calculations for specific things I'm interested in.

I was able to put together park factors for the 5 or 6 parks that were used by the SFCBL this season. Based on Doughty's distribution of games, he had 159 OPS+, meaning he had an OPS 59% better than average when adjusting for the parks he played in.

His unadjusted OPS+ was 165. He played the largest percentage of his games in a park that was more offense-friendly than some of the other parks. Which is why the adjustment dropped him slightly.

Zach Arnold - Park Adjusted OPS+: 114, unadjusted: 112. Most of his games were played in parks that were more pitcher friendly.

Cade Beloso - Park Adjusted OPS+: 159, unadjusted: 155.

Doughty's OPS was 1.153 and Beloso's was 1.088. When adjusted for the parks they played it was 1.115 to 1.113, effectively equal. So they were both 59% better than league average when adjusted for parks.

Gavin Dugas' OPS+ with and without the park adjustment is 128. He only batted .262, but a large portion of his hits were for extra bases. He actually had one more home run than he's given credit for because the game he hit it in was never finished. It was cancelled mid game with no make up. If he hits like that this upcoming season, it will be hard to keep him out of the lineup, despite people getting upset with the low batting average.

In the Texas Collegiate League, Ma'Khail Hilliard had a FIP of 3.40 (compared to league FIP of 4.75). He struck out 22.4% of batters faced and only walked 8.2%.

I could only find stats for 6 games for Will Safford. He had a 1.119 OPS. In 23 PAs, he walked 4 times, struck out 5 times, and had 6 hits. Of those 6 hits, two were HRs and one was a double.

I will answer these for how things typically work in a normal year, because this year has been weird.

The coaches help line them up with spots to play. A league like the Cape Cod is mostly selected by MLB scouts. They want to get the cream of the crop there so they can get better context on how guys may translate to pro ball. From the wood bats, to the daily grind, to the increased competition, to the self-motivation side of things. The Cape provides a ton of data for the pros, and not just on the measurable side of things.

They pretty much get to pick first and then from there every other league is based on connections with the coaches and getting guys spots in leagues that will hopefully allow them to max out playing time and develop.

Position players, yes. Pitchers, a decreasing number of top pitchers are participating each year.

We don't really send many pitchers out anymore. Hilliard and a couple of the incoming freshmen were the only guys that threw this summer in leagues.

But we normally will send players to the Cape and the Northwoods League. We will send incoming guys to the Prospect League, the Cal Ripken League, and the Perfect Game League. Sometimes to the Great Lakes league as well.

This year we were going to send current players to the Valley League for the first time in a while. And we usually have one or two guys in the TCL playing for either the Lafayette or Baton Rouge team.

This year, we sent pretty much all of our position players to the South Florida League, which I hope we continue to use as a summer league. And Dylan Crews played in the Florida Collegiate League.

There were a couple of leagues that popped up in Mississippi this summer in response to the shutdown of other leagues. I don't know if they'll keep going, but two incoming guys played in one of those leagues.
