Merrifield is an interesting prospect.
LSUE is hard to scout hitters from, IMO.
But him, Izzio, and Zack Mathis (Delta College in CA) are the JUCO guys I gathered hints that we're connected to.
Mathis was drafted though and may sign, I guess. He's 5'9", plays shortstop, but was drafted as a catcher. And he hit about .130 worse than Hughes in the Northwoods league last year. Between his height, last name, and NWL stats compared to Hughes, he alone would cause the Rant to melt down.

He played 1B last night

Pass.
Seems like there would be some guy from Illinois State or Liberty who did really well at a midmajor level and was pissed off about getting drafted in the 28th round, and rather than signing a contract for 50K he'd decide to graduate and give LSU a shot as a grad transfer.

I've heard of about 3 grad transfers in the past 5 years. The market just isn't there for that.
Here is a JUCO freshman that I haven't seen a connection to, but is playing in the Northwoods league and I know we scout that: Cooper Bowman
Originally committed to Hawaii out of high school, switched to Iowa Western. His team was NJCAA D1 CWS runner up. They eliminated the number 1 JUCO team in the country to go to the World Series.

Interesting......has speed....comes out of same high school as Dave Collins, who was, for a short time, part of that Big Red Machine.

Sign Coop up if the kid from Cali doesn't work out.

He'd be a guy we could look at.
.918 fielding percentage doesn't sparkle, though.

Hinds, Espino, and Cairo have officially signed. I've taken them off the list in the OP.

Project:
Whatever came of the SS who came to LSU about 3 years ago with a lot of hype (I forgot his name) from WV I believe. Just curious if you may have heard of anything.

Any chance we could still get(P) Lewis?

Trey Dawson.
He went to JUCO then to Kentucky for a year and was drafted by the Astros last year. He's done absolutely nothing since then.

LSUsports.net 2020 Baseball Preview: Infielders
This article seems very telling regarding Raymond Torres. He isn't even mentioned, whereas Travinski and Milazzo are.

There just keeps being glaring omissions of him, plus him dropping off the summer league roster. Still waiting for something official, which based on the article will be later in the summer.
I'm going to do some research to try to find guys that fit this description from the article:

Mainieri said he’ll target several types of players, including former high major D1 signees who transferred to junior college after their freshman seasons and 2019 signees who signed with schools that fired their coaches and were eligible to be released from their National Letter of Intent.

When do the current players report to their summer teams? I feel like guys use to get out there within a week of them being eliminated, but it doesn’t look like anyone has started playing yet.

Any matches?
I've found some people that are in recruiting classes for schools where the coach just got fired that we're looking at, but none for the 2019 class.

Braden Doughty, Rye Gunter, Drew Bianco, and CJ Willis are the only ones I've seen report for the summer so far. I'm guessing the Cape Cod guys will be some time this week.
