Defensively, Torres and Milazzo are ahead of Travinski but of course he has that bat. Typically you would transition the extra catcher to 1B and Travinski has played that also so maybe Beloso will DH with Travinski at 1B. As for catcher, that will be a dogfight with Mathis, Garza, Torres and Milazzo all competing for that spot.
I am curious now about LHP. There were none this year (injury) to now having 3 next year.

Assuming Garza returns, he would have to either catch, play first base, or be the DH. Beloso can only play first or DH. I am going with the early assumption, then, that Garza and Travinski will each split time between catcher and DH, while Beloso will be the every day first baseman.

That means that Torres and Willis will have to learn third base or left field if they want a position to play. I don't see Milazzo getting much playing time as a freshman, simply due to the crowded position, and it seems he'll probably have the furthest to go, offensively. Though he could end up being a surprise, obviously.

Depending on how things develop, though, Doughty might end up at third with Hughes back at short. I'm expecting Dugas to break out, and lock down second base, but we're going to need Bianco or one of the aforementioned catchers to step up with the bat and glove and take third base, so that Doughty can stay at short. Otherwise, it's going to be Hughes at short.

We have some good signees coming in, but guys like Hampton and Travinski are going to take a lot of polishing before they start playing. This is why we need a full time paid assistant teaching hitting.

Does anyone remember the name of the LHP we recruited at the very end of last year who committed, then signed elsewhere? I think he was from Cali and ended up staying out west.

I can find it, I think it's in last year's recruiting thread. I know who you're referring to.

ETA: Erik Tolman - Arizona State

Threw 48 innings with a 3.38 ERA. Pitched against Southern Miss in the regional.

Opponent’s .198 batting average against Tolman this season is easily the lowest on the team. With a handful more innings pitched, Tolman would qualify as the only pitcher in the Pac-12 this season to not allow a home run.

I’m guessing LSU couldn’t offer much scholarship funds to him. Would have came in handy this season.

I'm not going to start a whole new thread for the 2020 class, I'm just going to change the title and move the content of the posts around. The last thread spanned two years and this one has been pretty lightly trafficked. So I don't think a complete turnover is necessary.

With the upcoming logjam at C and 1b for 2020, what's the chance of the Royals throwing 250K at Garza and him taking it. Maybe the Royals wind up with enough money to make this happen, huh?

They might need polishing, but that doesn't mean they won't play right away. Those two that you mentioned I think are absolutely day one starters.

It would be nice to have full time paid assistants, for sure. I just wonder if LSU had that option, that things would be any different. It seems like we'd still have the same guys, and they'd just be getting paid now.

how do we feel about the overall class? I'm just perplexed out our lack of urgency to sign top infielders. Doughty looks like a stud, and then what? a bit disappointing considering this is Cain's full time job.

I feel very good about the class, overall, but I do wish it had more infielders in it.

However, that wasn't from a lack of recruiting. Rece Hinds and Christian Cairo were top prospects. Hinds was never a strong possibility to make it to campus, but Cairo was. It just didn't work out in our favor, in the end. I can't blame Cain for that.

But he will HAVE to approach this next class with a backup plan. Because if all, or most, of our top infield prospects go pro again, we need some Cole Freeman finds at the JUCO ranks, or at least a Chris Reid type. We can't end up with more .170 hitters.

From an overall talent perspective, I'm giddy over getting Doughty, Hampton and Travinski. I'm not sure what kind of players guys like Torres and Milazzo will be right away, but they could be really huge pieces, as well.

On the pitching side, I'm just hoping Phillips makes it here. I'm assuming he will, considering how low he was drafted relative to his actual prospect status. But I thought the same thing about Nick Longhi a few years ago, and he went pro, anyway.

Same, throw in Toups as well.

To bring in Beloso, Willis, DiGiacomo, Doughty, Hampton, Travinski in back to back classes is a very strong core.

The numbers don't show it working now but I would not be surprised to see Mainieri look for a late JUCO infielder this summer. The team may be one infielder away from having a complete lineup.

There is one particular one that I think they're looking at, but waiting to see how the numbers work.

Could someone tell me where I could find a list of our signees for this year? I thought I saw it on this thread a few days ago but I can't find it now. I did find a list on Perfect game, but I noticed it did not include the left hander (Kaminer?). Thanks.
