Saw an updated mlb.com mock. One guy had Turang at 17 to Angels. One had him at 26 to BoSox.
Could get interesting for us if he slides to end of first round but I still expect him to go pro.

I'm listening to a Fan Graphs podcast right now and they are dogging UVA pretty bad. Apparently their reputation among scouts, pro personnel, and agents is shite. They teach the hitters and pitchers things that stunt their development. They get pitchers hurt at a higher rate than normal.
ETA: They also outlined the recruiting advantages Florida has. Talks about Vanderbilt's strategy and why who they target makes them likely to get to campus. It's a very good listen: LINK

Interesting.
They’ve also had a few highly thought picks skip the draft, right? I’m sure some mlb people are irked by that.

O’connor has had a reputation for abusing his pitchers for awhile now. I’m glad people are starting to notice it more.

Yeah, that's probably pissed some people off.
One of the things they talked about was how current pitcher Daniel Lynch has stayed high on draft board is because it's known he's defying the coaching staff and throwing the way he wants vs the way they want.
It's weird that their reputation has sunk to the point that a kid defying his coaches is seen as a positive.

Yeah. Odd. Always thought that staff was held in very high esteem.

It just makes me laugh when people on the rant continue bring up OConnor as someone who either should replace Mainieri down the road, or replace him right now.

Hope Turang slips enough to get to LSU, can always hope right. Also, the P from Destrehan.

Project what’s the current roster count? This draft could be bittersweet in that if we have some luck with guys currently on the roster, which would play a huge part in the bounce back I expect next season, it may mean there isn’t room for some of the players in the signing class.
I think we’ll lose a few signees to the draft, but we have enough arms returning and in the class for the staff to make a huge turn around in 2019. My concern is losing a couple bats and then having another one or two get caught in the numbers crunch.
Here is a link to Garza in the cage earlier in the Spring. He looks a lot different than he does in some of the high school profiles and video I’ve seen of him. Haven’t seen any defensive video but I wonder if he is more of a 1B than C.

We are at 50/35 currently. I don't count exiting seniors in that number, it's only players with eligibility remaining.
ETA: Had the number wrong, we're at 49/35. I read my sheet wrong.

If he sticks to his number he won’t have to fall very far. If he goes outside of the top 20 it will be interesting.

Project. Please elaborate on the 35. We took 24 players to Corvallis who are the other 11? Thanks.

35 is the roster limit. We’re currently at 50 when you consider the signing class and players currently on the roster with remaining eligibility. So at least 15 of those will not be here in the Fall.
There are roster limits for conference weekends and the postseason, that’s why you will always have a discrepancy between those limited rosters and the 35 total.

Is Jaden Hill still a safe bet to make it to campus? Seems he's a highly rated guy.
Posted on 6/4/18 at 12:23 pm to CP3forMVP
Supposedly Hill has a big number, that is a good bit higher than his 3rd-5th round grade.
That's true of Henry and Willis as well.
Often, what will happen is guys like that will fall precipitously in the draft because of questions about signability.
But we'll see.

Correct. That’s why you see some of these guys with third round grades getting drafted after the 20th round.

So, we actually didn't have the 35 this year. We started at 36/35 with a waiver for Walker sitting out the year. It's what allowed us to add Clay Moffitt as a walk-on. Moffitt and Walker were the 35th and 36th players on the roster, depending on how you look at it.
We ended up short of 35 players when Doolittle, Woley, and Templet left during the winter break. We fell by 1 more when Schroer (who was expected to redshirt) left the team and the school.
So we were at 32/35, but effectively 31/35.
Also, I had my number wrong, we're at 49/35. I apologize.

So assuming Watson, Hess and Sanders are gone - we are at 46/35.
Then you have to think at least three recruits don’t make it to campus - you are at 43/35.
Eight guys to cut. I imagine if two catchers make it to campus then Feduccia and Doughty are gone. That gets you to 41/35.
Would have to think about the others but probably 3-5 arms would be leaving too.

Don't you now have to subtract Bain,Coomes, and Beau Jordan as well?
