Sims could pay his own way, either directly or through the many old school Dale Brown sources.
Dale has given money for many years to his former players and their kids for college.
So, perhaps Wade coverts to walk-on.
I don't think this is allowed under NCAA guidelines.Imagine how this could assist football recruiting if wealthy alumni paid for 5 " walkons " in addition to the 25 signees.

Depends how it’s done. If Dale gave money directly to Wayne Sims no one would know.

Pretty sure it’s allowed. I think a guy from Xavier gave up his scholly so his brother could get one. Might have changed since then but that was about 4 yrs ago.
You obviously can’t pay them tho, I don’t think sims is worth NCAA violations anyway

True, but not sure Dale wants to riskhis legacy being tarnished given the Lester eARl fiasco at the end of his career. Though it was never proven tha Dale did anything he was blamed since he was the coach and the NCAA finally had a chance to get him.
I doubt Will Wade wants to chance anything at thsis tae of his career so if push comes to shove he just process someone if he reallywants to sign this recruit.
I am sure with his love for LSU Shaq would gladly fund several addiitonal playes but again that is not allowed.
The program is on the verge of being anational power so lets just do things the right way and good things will happen. There is enough basketball tradition here ( albeit most of it over 20 years ago) and support waiting for a consistently strong program to once gain pack the PMAC. We coming! And we aint backing down.

To be quite honest, I too believe that LSU will sign Aundre Hyatt August 8th. Although LSU 13 slots for basketball is filled, It is my hunch that Skylar Mays will receive an academic scholarship thereby allowing another slot to become available for Hyatt. I look for both Wayde Sims and Brandon Rachal to be on the team this year.

Are you 100% sure that this is even permissible in basketball? I'm almost positive it's not in football.

I would believe he already has an academic scholarship in addition to his athletic one.

Negative. Athletic scholarships are full rides

In basketball and football, yes. That doesn't mean he still isn't eligible for additional money from academic scholarships. Not every academic scholarship pays for your entire tuition. Most of them are just $500-1000 a semester.

LJ Cryer has an LSU offer now and says he is being recruited but the Tigers harder than anyone else. He just finished his sophomore year at Morton Ranch in Katy where he already broke the school scoring record. He fits a hybrid guard role, great long range shooter, can drive and dish, and has handles enough to suit point and shooting guard roles. He also has two teammates that are receiving D1 offers in Wesley Sellers and Eddie Lampkin.

There are free rides on academic scholarships also. I agree some provide limited support however, others provide free room, books and tuition.

Cryer will be the first commit of the 2020 class. Kid just gets buckets like his life depends on it.

Well we can stop all the speculation on who is leaving or going on academic scholarship or whatever other scenarios have been thrown around. Rachal just tweeted that he is transferring. Based on my speculation, I guessed correctly that he was the likely suspect. I was looking forward to seeing how he would develop based on end of season results. Oh well, welcome Mr. Hyatt to the team.

And then there was 1 JJ holdover.
Gonna miss Rachal’s defense, but oh well.
Hyatt provides a better shooter.

That's kinda sad. I'm not down on Hyatt, but I don't think he's a better player than Rachal. Hopefully he shows me up.

2 Jones holdover leff...sims and Mays

I guess he saw the writing on the wall as it pertain to playing time. If he can develop a shot, he has an opportunity to one day play pro ball. Good luck Brandon your future is bright.

Considering he was suspended multiple times last year I’m not sure you could say it’s sad. I was on board to keep him and process Sims but losing either or both is not hurting the program as long as you are replacing them with talented, better character guys
