road graters to protect Nuss

That would be Les Miles and his offensive guards at every position including tackle.

We had pass protect. Losing them isn’t losing “graders” in that sense. You have to be able to run inside in the game of tackle football. Brian Sloan better draw up some qb runs for next year and fine someone with a pulse that can block when walking forward and remember snap counts.

Uh....I think you mean road graders. But, yeah, we're gonna have to go get some guys. When we signed two incredible players who were our starting bookend tackles from day one (How often does THAT happen?!!), we knew the day was gonna come when we would probably lose both of them at the same time. Let's hope that we've got some young studs ready to step in. But a couple of experienced OL would certainly help.

Just had a buddy text me the exact thing melting that LSU should have used nil money to keep them. It’s just the new melting topic of the day for rantards.

Interesting note on the run blocking late in the season. Arguably, Our pass blocking was pretty good but our run blocks were terrible. I chalked it up to scheme, design, bad player reads, etc but I noticed when Mubenga came in for Dellinger that while he wasnt pass blocking well he could pull on running plays better than any of the starting 5.

So I figured we got so used to seeing the same group of OL the last couple yrs that many of us did not see the deficiency of their ability to get their big asses moving fast enough to not blow up the run by missing their assignments.

Moral to that? Our OL was too slow to pull effectively for runs and screens.

The On3 and 247 guys have discussed this. Dellinger and Frazier aren’t super athletic and struggled to pull effectively. Mubenga isn’t strong enough and was a bit of a project type player, but he IS more athletic. That’s why they took a flyer on him.

He was only in because Adams was hurt though. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do as a starter. He’s looked good in the game time he’s had.

If I remember correctly, Mubenga was actually a soccer player that moved LATE in HS into football. I have no idea if he will develop but he is the classic case of a guy who is "new to football". As you stated he is more athletic but at least 3 of the 7 sacks that Nussmeier endured at Florida were 100% related to Mubenga and his "ole blocks". It may be strength as you stated OR it might be him not understanding how defenses pass rush, sometimes stunt, etc I am very curious to see if he can improve because I believe the "want" as Les Miles put it and the athleticism is definitely there.

The problem with the line was the weak link at center.

That should reduce our pre-snap penalties by 80%.

It will be interesting to see how they handle the oline for next year. Can’t forget about the talent we have waiting in the wings either. Weston Davis and T Adams should be next up. What they do with the interior will make or break this line imho.

I dont dispute that point but my point was that our OL, as good of pass blockers as they were, were too slow to effectively pull on runs and screens. That has nothing to do with the weak center.
