and given that Louisiana seemingly has no DT who is worthy of an LSU offer, why in the hell did we not offer Chucky Hunter?

I was confused about this last year, and given the situation this year, it makes even less sense.

He was a 17 year old senior who was a man-child for WM.

LSU can pull a top DT from anywhere

Yes. It's just that easy. We've landed so many highly touted DTs from out of state...

Recruiting will always have an element of uncertainty to it. In most of the top programs there are more hits than misses.

My guess as to why we did not offer Hunter was that it was a numbers game at the time. In hindsight, it was a miss.

For that matter, we signed Akiem Hicks early and apparently played it too loose with Sentimore (because of his grades). When we tried to recruit him he stuck by his earlier commitment to Bama. Obviously, Hicks was a huge mistake and Sentimore has some issues (and maybe he would have just the same had he came here). IMO, this was another whiff.

Was this serious? Apart from Nevis, I don't recall a single DT recruit since Les arrived who has lived-up to expectations.

Les is a great recruiter but even he misses on occasion.

relax.....introducing michael brockers, josh downs, anthony johnson, and ego ferguson. these guys will all be major contributors. the deepest dt group since les' arrival. and the ends are even deeper.

It's an impressive list of young talent. I think Brockers and Freak will be great. Not sure about Downs/Ferguson.

Hunter from WM, Hodge from Neville, and the year before Byran Jones from Junction City. 2 to Arkansas, 1 to TCU, and all 3 wanted to go to LSU.

downs is projected to start over freak right now. this kid can play. he has been making plays since tr fr year, but he needs to stay healthy. freak will get some legit time. ego is so damn strong...he makes f#@*ers flinch in pad drills.

Logan , Downs, and Brockers. Followed by Freak, Quinton Thomas, and Mickey johnson. I gues the staf just felt there was better talent available and you can't sign everyone.

or we could get some of that high quality JUCO film from a certain guy in Texas and do what Bama & Auburn do...get a JUCO, if necessary.
But I don't see why we can't pull Quay.
I think Singleton is backburner.

Considering the instate talent LSU has had in Les' tenure, he still landed, RJF, Brockers and Ferguson. he'll, the problem is scaring kids off with talent (cass marsh)

We've seen much less that LSU had to work with in the past

Les was probably trying to avoid a log-jam at DT. there were 2 DT commitments in the last class that are expected to contribute sooner than later. Then you have 2 redshirt freshmen in Thomas and Ferguson. With Johnson likely to get a gray-shirt, you are expecting to see the following grouping:

junior
sophomore
3 freshman
Mickey Johnson for 2012 class

The concern at DT is more in the upperclassmen level. I wouldn't say that we are in great shape at DT but the staff can afford to pick-and-choose from out-of-state for the right one.

Contributors?

Dude, that's our entire DT depth chart.

One guy with a few snaps, one guy with a history of being injured and two freshmen.

2012 Dline

End
Lavar Edwards 6-5 280 sr
Chancey Aghayere 6-4 275 sr
Jermauria Rasco 6-4 255 fr

Josh Downs 6-1 290 sr
J.R. Ferguson 6-3 300 so
Bennie Logan 6-3 290 jr
Quentin Thomas 6-3 280 fr

Michael Brockers 6-6 310 jr
Anthony Johnson 6-3 300 so
Jordan Allen 6-6 260 so

End
Sam Montgomery 6-4 260 jr
Barkevious Mingo 6-5 250 jr
Justin Maclin 6-4 240 so
Danielle Hunter 6-4 240 fr

if we don't get a DT this year, it's not the worst that could happen. We already have 7 dts.....Maybe 6 since Jordan Allen is a DE.

how does Louisiana look next year, talent-wise?

I'm not sure why people have a hard time understanding this. If we can get a very good one I'm sure they would take him. But is not an immediate need so there is no point in taking someone just to have a body.

Downs
Brockers
Logan
Ferguson
Johnson
Thomas
Johnson

No seniors and only one junior. We aren't in as bad of shape there as everyone thinks. Yes, we are inexperienced heading into this season, but that doesn't mean you fix it by adding more inexperience. The numbers are fine and Allen could always bulk up and slide down since he may not be quite as athletic as the ends our staff seem to like.

I really think that Rasco will become a DT eventually. I mean, look at Fairley coming out of high school. They were the exact same size. He has the frame to put on really good weight. Just a hunch, but I think this is a move we may see.

Isn't Rasco supposed to be a great edge rusher? I dunno about moving him from his natural position. It's not like he's sitting at 275 like Quentin Thomas out of HS.

Rasco has a prototypical 4-3 DE body.
