fellas, you don't turn down Harvard. period.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.

That's an ignorant statement. With Harvard's massive endowment and stringent academic requirements, most students pay nothing to attend Harvard.
Already addressed this issue. Yes my statement was a little ignorant, I did research and posted it in this thread.

Unless accepted under Harvard's admission standards, this is all just spit balling.
First, Harvard doesn't have its own admission standards. The AI is adhered to by all Ivy League schools. If you do not meet the minimum requirements for one you are excluded by all.
I am not saying anything contrary to the rest I am simply stating what I know about admission. I don't think he turned Harvard down because the decision deadline hasn't passed yet.

Harvard DOES have its own admission standards and it's own admissions office. It is the most difficult school to get into in the Ivies, year after year.
And Scott cannot "turn down" an offer he has never received.
If you have a link that reflects his acceptance BY HARVARD, let me know.
No one else seems to have been able to tie down that information.

There is one avenue in life that LSU is better than Harvard, and thats putting guys into the NFL...that's it. Stop being delusional.
I listed several others already. If he wants to come back to BR and start a business, his name recognition as being a QB at LSU would outweigh where he graduated from. By far. A Harvard degree would mean more nation wide, but an LSU Qb has incredible name recognition to jump start any local/state business.
Who do you think would have a better dental practice in baton Ruge? Matt Mauck or somebody that graduated from Harvard and has no local connections?

Let me rephase. If he cannot meet the AI, individual admissions criteria do not matter.

Once again, I never said he turned down an offer nor did I say he was offered at all. I am simply speaking on the admissions process.

His dream is to play in the NFL. Harvard is not going to get him there. If that dream is not realized he still has time in his life to work on that too
This. You have to understand young high school star athletes only have one occupation in mind. Also they can tend to be slightly delusional in terms of their own capabilities. I'm sure Scott sees QBs like Russell wilson and Drew Brees and thinks he can be just like them, not understanding how unlikely that is.

I swear, I don't know why guys use this so much. If you are a star at LSU, and are smart, have a good work ethic, and have good sales skills and want to work in sales, sure, there are options for you after football at some companies in LA. Other than that, this notion that because you play football for LSU that you are somehow guaranteed great jobs and a great life in LA is severely misguided.

I know and have worked with guys that graduated from Harvard. almost all of them have a rolodex with contacts that they met at Harvard. these contacts range from ceo, cfo, small to medium size business owners.
the contacts you meet at Harvard are very likely to be more beneficial than the contacts you meet in la. (during undergrad or after)_ that are connected to LSU even if you are a former football player.

I've gone over this already in the thread. Read through it.

His dad is an attorney and his mom is a professor if I recall correctly, so it's not like he comes from a family in poverty.
If true, no wonder why everyone compliments his smarts, it's natural. His parents appear to be rather successful and have raised this young man right regardless of their careers.

His father has his own law practice LINK
I can't confirm his mother is a professor but I believe I read that online at some point. I don't know the family personally. But yes, he comes from a family of successful people, so it's no surprise he excels as well.

If this was my son no matter what, I would let him make his own desicion but if he asked me for my advice like my son does. I would have said go to Havard in a second! It would be for his future! The simple factor of an Ivy league education on a resume of "Havard" speaks for its self.

Appreciate it man! That's interesting to know, at least to me it is.
It definitely gives a little more insight into just how bright of a future this young man has, whether that's on or off the field. The Tigers are truly blessed to have a young man like this on the team.

I definitely can't say that would be bad advice, but as stated above, he can still go there for grad school.
The fact that he didn't go there AND he choose LSU, says to me, that he has aspirations of playing for a championship in college and maybe even have a shot at the NFL. And for him, it's a win/win no doubt. Play QB for your home state team and be a hero to many in Louisiana. Then, if football works, that's just gravy and you can go pro. If football doesn't work, you've played at the highest college level and made many connections, plus a good undergrad degree and you can still go to Harvard or wherever for a graduate degree.
This young man is blessed and has set himself up to be as successful as he would like. It appears the sky is the limit.
Eta - does anyone have any idea what kind of degree he wants to pursue? I thought I remember they had a couple posters here that go to school with him. Maybe they or someone else knows.
