It’s never that black & white. You can’t pick your parents.

Lot’s of funny in that quote. Also, should he have picked his coaches better?

I'd venture that most people on here haven't done that

I’[ve mentored and tutored dozens of young people. None of them ever pulled a knife on me. I guess, according to Lester, I must be a great mentor.

I love the way Lester writes, “Unless he is a complete psychopath…”. Well, maybe he is. Or maybe he’s just a bit of a psychopath. But he blames the coaches.

The real reason Lester is arguing is the same reason as in most of his arguments. Lester is a bright guy who ejaculates opinions onto these boards without any forethought. Many of us do, but few do it as much as Lester. Many of Lester’s takes are excellent, but when you shoot your mouth off without thinking you are going to spout some stupid shite. Most of us would fade into the background when confronted with it. Lester doesn’t fade; I’ll give him that. He is going to continue saying Odell sucks until Odell retires, then he’ll say, “I told you he couldn’t play.”

Les is normally a contrarian.

But what he seems to be saying here is that while a completely wrong and outsized reaction it was to pull a knife on a coach, it was still a reaction to something. And it may be worth considering what it was a reaction to.

That's not outrageous.

It wouldn't be outrageous if that's what he was trying to say, but it's not. Or if it is then Lester has a problem being coherent.

What he is saying - explicitly - is that the coaches failed him. Lester is unfortunately spewing the nihilistic crap that holds no one responsible for their own behavior.

Coaches hold what is a parental responsibility, almost. They are tasked with creating and fostering a positive environment for growth, learning, and maturing. When something like this happens under your watch, it should be alarming. And yes, it should be considered that you have potentially failed that child.

Are you a parent Lester? I am. Four kids. I had a lot of levers to pull to raise my kids. I could take away TV, control what they ate, where they slept, whether they could play with their friends. Hell, I could whip their arse if I thought it was appropriate. Plus the coach is with the kids maybe 12 hours per week and he has about 30 kids during that time. No coach has anything like the control a parent has. You can't blame a coach for how a kid turns out. That's Hillary Clinton level takes-a-village bullshite!

It’s funny that is what he read, and you just chose to read what you wanted to.

Confirmed you just read what you wanted to read

You coward. I read what you wrote. You blamed the coaches and everyone in here knows it.

And now you don’t have the guts to stand by what you wrote or to disavow it.

Lest there is any doubt, you wrote this:
quote:

Coaches in general have failed him if he is pulling a knife on one of them.

Quit running from it.

BS Lester. You are reaching. Why do we have some many in prison then? Lots of folks tried to help those people, but ultimately they made their own choice. Coaches can only do so much. My parents had way more influence on my character than my coach. He played a role, but no where near what my family did. No justification to pull a knife on a coach. None.

I read the rest. Is it your opinion that the rest changes your position? If so, say so. Say, "I shouldn't have written that the coaches failed him. What I meant is that the coaches must be disappointed that they could not do more." That would be reasonable.

But you slandered the coaches. You are trying to squirm your way out of it, but you won't do the honorabl thing and retract your statement.

Again, you are just reading what you want to. I’m not sure at what point this became coaches vs parents.

My first post was a specific one regarding a comment about coaches. I never removed any blame from the parents. If you are that concerned about my comments, please read all of them.

If the kid was white? Wow! The audacity to play the race card. In this day and age if he was white it surely would not have been a knife he brought.

If he had some kind of mental illness, you’d be right.
